Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists the County Administrator with developing, planning, and implementing goals and objectives of the County.
  • Represents the County and the County Administrator to County management staff, elected officials and outside agencies; explains, justifies and defends the programs, policies and activities of the County.
  • Conducts studies, prepares reports, and advises the Administrator on the feasibility, cost-effectiveness and regulatory conformance of proposals for special projects.
  • Participates in the formation and administration of County policy.
  • Assists the County Administrator with directing the activities of the departments reporting to the County Administrator.
  • Analyzes activities, costs, operations and forecast data to determine department’s progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of the County and departmental budgets.
  • Confers with the County Administrator and other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals and objectives from current status.
  • Participates in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff reporting to the County Administrator.
  • Provides or coordinates staff support to a variety of boards and commissions; serves on intergovernmental and citizens committees.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public works, human resources, emergency services, community services, and public administration.
  • Directs or personally conducts studies, research and investigations on a wide variety of administrative and technical areas.
  • Meets and confers with citizens and business interests to solve problems and discuss County policies and procedures; responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Cultivates cooperative partnerships with outside public and private organizations to access resources and improve the efficiency of service delivery.
  • Serves as acting County Administrator during his or her absence.
  • Actively participates in the development and review of the Commissioners Court meeting agenda.
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the business as assigned or required.

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.

TO APPLY, must have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related field + Seven (7) full-time years of responsible professional management experience in a public or private organization.

OR

TO APPLY, must possess a Master’s degree or higher in Public Administration or a related field + Five (5) full-time years of responsible professional management experience in a public or private organization.

Executive Administrative Experience In County And/or City Government Preferred.

If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment

at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
