Provide exceptional service to the Association as a team member within academic and membership affairs. Duties may include but are not limited to serving as a member of the Division I academic team and/or rules bylaw team and supporting the governance structure. Other duties may be assigned based on the candidate’s qualifications and interests.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Division I bylaw team.
- As a member of the Division I bylaw team, assist the membership, staff and other interested individuals and organizations in understanding NCAA Division I legislation and interpretations as well as through the conference contact program, committee support, written correspondence and in-person presentations (e.g., regional rules seminars, conference meetings).
- Process Division I legislative relief waivers and assist member institutions in the waiver process.
- Assist with Division I educational initiatives (e.g., online educational resource center, Division I University, regional compliance seminars and other educational materials).
- Provide legislative support through drafting legislative proposals and associated legislative publications (e.g., question and answer documents), including collaboration with conference sponsors.
- Represent the NCAA and AMA through presentations of educational materials at various staff, Association, conference and professional organization’s seminars, workshops and meetings.
- Assist with special projects that impact/involve AMA and each divisional governance structure.
- Other duties may be assigned, depending on the candidate selected.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's or advanced degree preferred.
- Two years of full-time professional experience in intercollegiate athletics, higher education administrator or the legal profession required.
- Preferred demonstrated working knowledge of NCAA rules.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills essential, including demonstrated ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Well-developed analytical reasoning and research skills.
- Ability to identify, understand, articulate, and advocate (orally and in writing) multiple perspectives on an issue is essential.
- Experience in an environment that applies principles of business performance management preferred.
- Computer knowledge required.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills required.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive materials required.
- Estimated Travel Required <20%.
- This position will be based out of the national office in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current work environment is hybrid; 3 days in the office and 2 days are remote.
