Assistant Director of Farm Operations

Brief Description

Thanksgiving Farm is a large scale farming operation located within Sullivan County, New York. The farm encompasses over 400 certified organic acres. Each year the farm grows over 60 varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs and is home to 3 orchards. The farm is rapidly growing and looking to increase production. The Thanksgiving Farm is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Farm Operations. This hands-on position requires five plus years of extensive farm management and commercial vegetable production experience. During the growing season there is an on-site 300 member CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), in addition to wholesale and local production. Functions And Responsibilities

• Year round production
• Farm Management
• Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Management
• Large Equipment Operation
• Greenhouse high tunnel Production
• Value added products: Lacto Fermentation, Balsamic Vinegar, Frozen Vegetables
• Dayhab/Education-Help to asses daily needs of farming operation and develop real work opportunities which integrate into education/dayhab programs
• Act as mentor to dayhab/education staff in relation to agricultural issues.
  
  

Requirements

• Knowledge of organic farming preferred
• Language/Writing Skills: Advanced ability to speak, read, and understand English, with fluency in Spanish desirable
• Driver’s license; maintain valid license
  
  

Bachelor's Degree preferred, Master's a plus!

• Expertise in operating large-scale farming equipment
• Ability to work 7 days a week during the growing season when necessary
• Ability to work 12+ hour days during the growing season to achieve production goals
