Red Cedar has partnered with a real estate investment and property management company in the Metro Denver area to help them find an assistant controller. This is an exciting position for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who is looking to make an impact with a growing company.
Overview: At this firm, their vision is to improve the lives of their business associates. Their first fund has been completely invested with $21 million of equity raised and has a high estimated forward return. They are looking to fill this position to find investment opportunities for Fund II and future investment products. Their business is to enhance the wealth of their investors. This investment management firm is a performance-based asset manager, only earning fees when investors are paid.
Job Description: The firm is seeking an Assistant Controller for its Lakewood office. The Assistant Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting of their corporate entity, Fund I & II, and Property Services.
Job Responsibilities:
Cash Management
Calculate Capital Calls and Distributions
Record Purchase and Sale of Assets including reconciliation of due diligence expenses and capital contributions
Coordinate and Assist with third-party tax preparation
Assist Third Party Administrator with Annual Audit
Investor communications and updates in AppFolio
Lender Compliance Reporting
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages
Analyze financial statements and prepare budget variance reports
Monthly close procedures including the preparation of general ledger entries and performing account reconciliations
Calculate & review fees including property management, construction management, and lease commissions
Preparation of annual CAM reconciliations & related billing to clients/tenants
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processing
Assist with annual corporate and property management budgeting
Provide excellent customer service to external and internal teams
Complete various financial, accounting, administrative reports and analysis as needed; performs other duties as assigned
Be proactive in relation to processes, efficiencies & communication
Job Requirements:
B.A. or B.S. in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline, with demonstrated academic excellence from a credible four-year institution.
Five years of relevant experience preferred.
Basic understanding of Partnership Agreements, Capital Account Reconciliation, and Distribution Waterfalls
Exemplary computer skills, including MS Office with intermediate proficiency in Excel.
MRI Software, AVID Pay, AppFolio, and Commercial Real Estate experience is a plus.
Strong time management and organization skills, including the ability to manage and meet reporting deadlines for multiple entities.
Attention to detail is critically important.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to various audiences. Ability to communicate clearly and with appropriate urgency.
Ability to multi-task and work effectively both individually and as part of a team (internal and external).
