The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing plant operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Their responsibilities revolve around managing the daily plant operations, assessing the workforce performance, and performing administrative support tasks such as producing progress reports and presentations, managing budgets and schedules, answering inquiries, and handling calls and correspondence. Furthermore, as an assistant plant manager, it is essential to lead and encourage the workforce to reach goals, all while implementing the company's policies and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
Foster a culture that drives and builds a positive, safe, and efficient work environment
Develop and hire team members to aid in culture development; assists with training of new employees and implementing training programs
Provide direction and oversight to production and maintenance teams to ensure optimal production and ensure proper care of facilities and equipment
Manage and comply with all safety policies, procedures, and established safety practices, as well as quality assurance and regulatory programs
Maintain effective communication and work collaboratively with all departments including Sales, Dispatch/Transportation, and other areas to ensure smooth operations
Prioritize and coordinate rail logistic and unload activities for optimal performance.
Provide technical and managerial expertise to solve problems, makes recommendations and oversees implementation of improvements
Responsible for hiring, development and retention of employees including resolution of disciplinary actions and employee issues; takes appropriate action with the assistance of the Human Resources Department
Assist operations management in performance reviews and providing feedback to employees; establish succession plans
Review and approve employee timesheets; monitor overtime, vacation schedules and sick usage; assist with employee scheduling
Maintain all required documentation and records, ensuring compliance and accuracy
Responsible for managing facility housekeeping
Assist with management of the SAP inventory system ensuring adequate and efficient inventory levels are maintained
Coordinate maintenance activities for increased machine reliability and reduction of downtime events. Ensure critical spare parts inventory.
Lead planning efforts to execute facility projects. Includes coordination of contractors and resources and the accurate tracking of capital approvals and expenditures.
Responsible for managing the following Quality and Regulatory areas at the Nutrius facility and across network:
- Quality Control Programs
Quality Control Audits and compliancy
FSMA/ SFSF compliance
Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Strong computer skills

Available to respond to emergency calls; work weekends and/or holidays.
Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record; class A CDL license preferred

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. Frequent lifting, and or moving over 50 pounds. Constant use of overall vision and hearing abilities; frequent detail, reading and close up work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a field or production environment in connection to agriculture business. Defined on site work schedule. Indoor and outdoor temperatures with varying temperatures and weather may be experienced. Working around slippery and uneven surfaces.
