About Our Client
The Associate Director of Labor & Employee Relations will focus on the day-to-day management of two labor unions and provide guidance and oversight for employee relations matters. They will use their knowledge of labor law, and knowledge and experience of labor contract administration to sustain and promote positive relationships with our unions and unit members and handle all employee relations matter for the unionized population.
Job Description
Act as subject matter expert for the interpretation and administration of various union contracts with respect to employee wages, salaries, grievances, and union and management practices
Manage and oversee day-to-day tasks related to labor relations and act as primary contact for all labor relations related questions and issues
Manage and oversee day-to-day employee relations matters; coach and guide managers on progressive discipline frameworks
Serve as an advisor to HR staff and managers throughout the organization on contract interpretation, implementation and contractual issues
Create and implement ongoing labor relations trainings for mangers
Consult with colleagues in HR and across the organization to establish and adapt new policies as they relate to union contracts
Act as primary liaison to union representatives and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with various staff and union representatives
Coordinate and participate in staff labor management committee meetings
Manage grievance procedures and resolutions
Advise and make recommendations for dispute resolution
Track employee relations cases and oversee the production of periodic reports on case volume
Develop, implement and oversee ongoing practices and programs to assure compliance with the negotiated contracts
Participate in and advise on issues and proposals for contract negotiations
Compile and implement various reports, communication and information appropriate to sustaining the relationship

The Successful Applicant
7+ years of experience in ER/labor relations
Demonstrated experience working on related issues in a union environment
Demonstrated experience handling employee relations matters with a progressive mindset as an HR Business Partner or HR generalist
Experience administering contracts and developing and maintaining relationships with a union
Understanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relations
Experience with grievance management & resolution
Experience in policy and procedure development
Labor relations certification is desirable
Strong ability to analyze and communicate on issues involving procedural complexity
