Immediate Supervisor: Audit Manager or Audit Director or Chief Auditor

General Description

An Auditor III will add value and improve our operations by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to determine whether control and governance processes are effective, efficient, and economical. This position is responsible for conducting Financial, Operational, Compliance, Information Technology, and Performance reviews of school functions within the Richmond Public School division at the direction of the Audit Manager the Audit Director, or the Chief Auditor of the School Board Audit Services. An Auditor III is responsible for providing independent, objective, and value-added assurance to management regarding the organization’s financial and operational systems, procedures, and processes. An Auditor III will collaborate and cooperate in all aspects of any Audit department-related activity.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Understands the division’s goal and objectives and promotes achievement of those objectives.
  • Performs and manages the full audit cycle including risk management and controls management over operations effectiveness, financial reliability, and compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Must be able to develop a full, robust audit engagement plan or have the aptitude to do so.
  • Determines an internal audit’s objective, scope, budget, timeline, staffing needs, etc, and communicates the plan to various stakeholders.
  • Obtains, analyzes, and evaluates accounting and financial documentation, previous audit reports, data, flowcharts, etc. to perform audit tasks, which will ultimately be provided in written reports.
  • Assists in preparing clear and concise reports that reflect the audit’s results and document the processes audited.
  • Functions as an objective source of independent advice to ensure validity, legality, and goal achievement.
  • Identifies risks and recommends appropriate, cost-effective risk mitigation measures and techniques to stakeholders.
  • Must be able to maintain open and professional communication and partner with management and audit committee.
  • Documents processes and prepares full and robust written audit findings
  • Conducts follow-up audits to monitor corrective action plans.
  • Promotes an understanding of the School Board Audit Services function and establishes a spirit of trust and communication between department personnel and all division employees.
  • Be engaged and continuously develop one’s knowledge regarding rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques, and performance standards.
  • Perform special assignments and responsibilities as directed.

Qualifications

  • 36 months or more as a practicing full-scope Auditor
  • Advanced computer skills must know MS Office Suite, familiar with various accounting and finance ERPs and databases.
  • Ability to manipulate substantial amounts of data and compile detailed reports.
  • Proven knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations or an aptitude to learn standards and procedures.
  • Ability to manage tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential investigations and special projects.
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree – any discipline, prefer Accounting, Finance, Business
  • Advanced certifications such as a CIA, CFE, CISSA, or CRMA, etc.
