We are seeking an experienced Bioinformatics Developer to join the Life Sciences Group at Bio-Rad and help us develop a new generation of cloud-based software for assays designed specifically for our industry-leading droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) platforms. As a Bioinformatics Developer, you will be able to see your ideas mature from conception to launch while creating efficient tools and novel algorithms for our ddPCR portfolio.

The ideal candidate is someone with a strong background in designing PCR assays. Effective communication across a wide variety of audiences, including those without prior bioinformatics experience, is also highly sought after. Likewise, candidates should be capable of making evidence-based decisions and seeking out opportunities for growth. How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Provide scientific and technical expertise in bioinformatics as part of a diverse research and development team.
  • Design and develop scalable, reproducible, and customer-focused bioinformatics software for designing ddPCR assays.
  • Support the custom assay design needs of internal R&D scientists, sales team, and customers.
  • Communicate with a variety of stakeholders across Bio-Rad to present work and develop collaborations.
  • Create tools for internal research and development, such as assessing assay performance and novel assay design tool prototyping.
  • Utilize test-driven development to ensure software deliverables are robust and meet requirements.
  • Identify and address opportunities for code and/or process optimization.

What You Bring

  • Education: PhD or MS degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or computer science OR Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or computer science with equivalent experience.
  • Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience designing PCR assays for DNA and/or RNA detection and quantification.
  • Proficient in Python programming.
  • Experience developing software with OOP paradigm and design patterns.
  • Experience writing code to manipulate and analyze complex genomic measurements.
  • Experience using reference genomes and transcriptome models databases.
  • Experience with ORM and managing databases, e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Fluent (written and spoken) English. 

The Following Will Be Desirable But Not Essential

  • Basic understanding of cancer genomics and databases.
  • Experience with assay design for bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
  • Experience with design control processes.
  • Fundamental knowledge of testing frameworks (e.g., Pytest, unittest).
  • Experience with RESTful API.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $130,200 to $179,100 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
