IntePros is seeking a Biomedical Technologist II to join our industry-leading healthcare client in Philadelphia, PA. This person provides safety checks, repairs, and preventive maintenance to patient monitoring systems, EKG Machines, electrosurgical units, defibrillators, electronic thermometers, incubators, and numerous other biomedical instruments. He or she assures that all clinical instrumentation in assigned areas is operating safely, and accurately, and meets all the specifications as documented by the manufacturer and/or Biomedical Engineering. This person maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Program, performs a variety of tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment with minimal supervision.They will specializes in at least one major piece of clinical equipment and is required to train other technicians on repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance techniques.

Biomedical Technologist II Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety, and function testing to department protocols per department schedule.
  • Follows all preventive maintenance procedures as documented on the PM work order or in the manufacturer's service manual if referenced.
  • Performs all necessary repairs in order to bring equipment to specifications.
  • Affixes inspection, calibration, and information tags to equipment upon completion of inspection.
  • Makes recommendations to improve, streamline or supplement preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Completes one hundred percent (100%) of all scheduled inspections within the month of assignment.
  • Repairs defective equipment to meet manufacturer's specifications.
  • Troubleshoot equipment in a methodical and well-thought fashion.
  • Uses tools, test equipment, service literature and information from the user to determine problems.
  • Always use proper electrostatic protection when performing repairs.
  • Always uses proper infection control techniques when working with equipment that is suspected to be contaminated.
  • Consults with vendor or other technicians when necessary to assist with the identification of problems.
  • Informs equipment owner of the status of equipment. Insures that equipment is returned within one day of repair completion.
  • Informs the equipment owners' department supervisor when parts cost exceeds pre-determined levels.
  • Performs evaluation of equipment failures to identify design and/or usage problems.
  • Maintains accurate records of all work performed.
  • Creates a work order to cover all work performed.
  • Documents all information including parts, service codes, labor time and all other data which best identifies the work performed.
  • Accurately closes work orders within two days after completion of work. Closes all completed work orders by the last day of the month.
  • Covers all time excluding lunch and breaks. Maintains a monthly (documented hours to worked hours) ratio of at least 90%.
  • Maintains a documentation accuracy level of at least 98%.
  • Ensure that equipment status is up-to-date in the equipment database.
  • Ensures accuracy of clinical equipment inventories.
  • Documents all information accurately when new equipment is received.
  • Provides supervisor with information on equipment status change within three days of discovery. These changes include retirement, change of ownership, software updates, etc.
  • Continually monitors accuracy of equipment information by reviewing work order data. Makes changes as necessary.
  • Orders correct parts and service items to complete repairs and maintain stock levels.
  • Follows department and Purchasing Services procedures when ordering parts.
  • Utilizes service manuals and other literature to obtain the correct part numbers.
  • Insures that information such as model number and software levels are taken into consideration before parts are ordered.
  • Follows up with Department Secretary or Database Administrator if parts have not arrived when expected.
  • Assists with the training of all new and existing BMET I and student interns.


Biomedical Technologist II Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years related experience and/or training
  • At least two (2) years experience in a hospital setting or assigned clinical environment


Required Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED


Preferred Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET), Electronic Engineering Technician (EET)


Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
  • Electronic Engineering Technology (EET)


Additional Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer and networking peripherals
  • English and professional skills plus additional certification and training as needed.
  • Comprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology.Working knowledge of clinical equipment, radiological, laboratory and network medical systems.
  • Exhibits a comprehensive understanding and can communicate the use of devices supported.
  • Can provide comprehensive support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.
  • Knowledge of electronics, medical instrumentation and equipment codes and standards acquired through formal education and on the job experience.
  • Knowledge of human physiology and hospital systems is required.
  • Good troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Good communication skills are needed in all aspects of the job due to daily contacts with nurses, physicians, technicians, patients and families.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Knowledge of both analog and digital electronic theory and experience in a broad range of medical instrumentation is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge level and experienced in most or all facets of job.
  • Possesses an intermediate level of expertise and is capable of assisting less experienced technicians.
  • Possesses comprehensive understanding and skills related to general electro-mechanical systems and devices
