The Waterfront Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning and delivery of all activities at the camp’s waterfront and ensuring that all waterfront activities occur in a safe and age appropriate manner. The Waterfront Manager will regularly employ risk management skills, continuously ensuring camper and employee safety at the waterfront. The Waterfront Manager also works with all members of the Administrative Team to provide ample, constant support to the unit counselors.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
Attend mandatory staff training and up to two pre-camp planning meetings with the Camp Director.
Attend staff meetings.
Serve as on-site weekend supervisor for one weekend during the camp season.
Lead waterfront staff in-service trainings.
Participate in the planning and conducting of pre-camp training, including training waterfront staff, counseling staff, and fellow administrative staff in their waterfront responsibilities and respective roles.
Supervise all waterfront staff, including regular, spontaneous evaluation and feedback; complete mid-season and summer’s end performance appraisals of Sailing Instructor and Lifeguards in conjunction with the Camp Director.
Keep the Camp Director regularly informed of waterfront staff performance, morale and conflicts.
Maintain in depth knowledge about the facility and its emergency action plan; ensure proper safety procedures are followed at the waterfront, and activate the emergency action plan when necessary.
Respond to on-site incidents and accidents. Follow reporting procedures to the Camp Director and GSNYPENN Director of Outdoor Initiatives.
Utilize CPR and First Aid training as necessary.
Maintain an understanding of NYS Department of Health standards, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints and American Camp Association safety requirements as pertaining to the waterfront.
Serve as motorboat driver as required or oversee delegation of this responsibility to other certified team members.
Set up and clean up the waterfront prior to and after daily use, ensure completion of daily logs, ensure equipment is in good working order; maintain organization of waterfront equipment.
Assist in the management and care of the camp facility and equipment, and assist with monitoring the property for maintenance needs, including taking consistent inventory of supplies and replenishing supplies as needed.
Act as a leader and role model to other staff members through enthusiastic participation in all camp programming.
Utilize excellent customer service skills, maintain a professional demeanor and positive, upbeat disposition, maintain the tenets of the Girl Scout Law, maintain a willingness to help others, and communicate with other staff members in a way that is positive and encouraging.
Assist the Camp Director in overseeing any day-to-day operations such as food services, health services, programs, human resource matters, interaction with parents, and camper/staff supervision.
Cover unit staff evenings off, rest hours off, and any and all other time-off as assigned.
Serve as a unit mentor, conduct frequent check-ins with assigned unit during unit time; serve as a resource for unit counselors needing support.
Assist with weekly camp clean up, including sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, trash pick-up, etc.
Adhere to all COVID-19 protocols required by NYS Department of Health and GSNYPENN.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Waterfront Manager supervises the Sailing Instructor and Lifeguards. The Waterfront Manager also supervises campers.
Minimum Qualification Standards
Be at least 19 years of age.
Ability to schedule and supervise staff; supervisory experience helpful.
Current Lifeguarding certification with appropriate Waterfront module and up-to-date CPR and First Aid a must.
Current Lifeguard Management Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Required experience: Minimum one summer of experience as a summer day or resident camp lifeguard, or minimum 18 weeks experience at another aquatics facility staffed by more than one lifeguard at a time.
Current Motorboat Boating Safety certification from US Coast Guard or Power Squadron (or willingness to obtain).
Experience operating a motor boat preferred.
Believe in the Girl Scout mission.
Experience working with children in an outdoor setting preferred, but not necessary.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and details simultaneously.
Possess good character, integrity, patience, sense of humor, enthusiasm, a high level of flexibility, and willingness to be a part of the camp community.

Skills related to program planning and implementation, such as: time management, creativity, flexibility, public speaking skills, organization, and strong interpersonal skills.
Physical And Mental Requirements
Light mental and visual attention required for performing work where there is some variety but actions taken and decisions made are limited to few possibilities. Work requires some coordination with others.
Physical Exertion
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile
Endurance to meet emergency needs
Ability (and willingness) to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours

Compensation is $600 to $800 per week
