Summary

We are currently hiring for an Operator, Mail Sorter II to join BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. In this role as Operator, Mail Sorter II, you will be the team leader responsible for processing mail by priority, based on contractual mail date, and finalizing mailings for United States Postal Service (USPS) acceptance. You will also input sort schemes to the sorter system to obtain the best possible postage rates allowed. Sorter operators follow strict guidelines to enforce a HIPAA compliant operation, ensuring mail is sealed, undamaged, and adheres to standard safety practices in operating equipment. Additionally, mail procedures require the adherence to the USPS regulations governing mail and adherence to federal privacy regulations.

Logistics

This position is full time (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday 12:30AM – 9AM and will be onsite at 1816 Willowby St, Columbia, SC 29223

What You Will Do

  • Operate high speed sorting equipment under the direction of a supervisor of production coordinator to meet the department's daily service goals for automated outgoing mail. Estimate completion time and report anticipated delays to management team with sufficient time to adjust and meet required postal service acceptance deadlines.
  • Trains new staff on all sorting machines. Validates training and provide feedback and assessment to trainees, existing staff and management.
  • Performs equipment set-up and adjustments per contractual obligations.
  • Maintains data for reporting and charge-back purposes. Performs quality control audits.
  • Monitors and maintains equipment. Enforces security procedures.
  • Work closely with production coordinator and supervisor to provide best practices on barcode sorting operational fulfillment knowledge in the implementation of new lines of business and other software tools used in the department. Recommend procedures and improvements to the process.

To Qualify For This Position, You Will Need

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three Years-experience in production mail operations.
  • Required Training: Pitney Bowes Certified Sorter Operator within 90 days of hire.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of postal regulations as they relate to mail or the ability to acquire.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a cohesive team.
  • Basic business math proficiency.
  • Good judgment.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Able to move up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to clear machine jambs by bending, stooping and reaching.
