Working within the Digital Strategy and Services (DSS) team in UMC and reporting to the associate director of digital content, the college digital content manager is responsible for a variety of operational tasks and duties, including website content management, maintaining departmental events, posting content for news blogs, managing assigned WordPress blogs, and reviewing relevant data and analytics reports for assigned colleges and departments.


This position implements recruitment and reputation strategies developed by DSS to improve enrollment and brand awareness. The chosen candidate collaborates closely with UMC marketing/comms staff to request and receive content to be formatted and distributed across digital assets such as websites, news blogs, and events calendars. The college digital content manager also collaborates with other UMC teams such as design and studio. 


This position brings DSS strategy to life by creating and updating web pages based on provided content, performing site optimization and maintenance, and performing tasks such as benchmarking and reviewing analytics to innovate and improve websites and pages to meet integrated marketing, brand awareness and reputation, and recruitment goals for assigned colleges and departments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  1. Work with UMC, Colleges, and Departments to improve and maintain the content, user experience, and functionality of sites related to support recruitment and reputation initiatives.
  2. Work with UMC to develop web pages that are attractive to target audiences, have logistical navigation flow, meet University and industry standards, and are accessible to all populations.
  3. Work with UMC to use analytics to make changes to College and Department websites, striving for continuous improvement in conversion rates and search engine rankings.
  4. Create, maintain, and execute annual website maintenance plans.
  5. Create and manage additional websites and webpages in support of the College and Departments.
  6. Manage content of College and Department WordPress blogs.
  7. Manage content of College and Department Localist event calendars.
  8. As appropriate, train Department web liaisons to work in Modern Campus CMS, WordPress, and Localist; empower them to maintain their websites, news blogs, and events calendars; monitor results; maintain ongoing relationships and assist where needed.
  9. Manage project and web maintenance tasks assigned through the Asana project management system.
  10. Attend regular UMC web content/departmental meetings and college meetings as needed. 
  11. As appropriate, create and maintain cPanel websites, following all standards and ensuring that security patches are maintained.
  12. Use and understand analytics, benchmarking, best practices, and optimization reports to make and recommend changes to assigned websites, striving for continuous improvement in design, usability, conversions, and search engine rankings.
  13. Work with the web team in reviewing content for consistency, accuracy, compliance, attractiveness, and performance and consult on usage, standards, and best practices.


Required Education and Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, web design, or comparable work experience
  • Two years of professional experience in managing web marketing projects
  • Experience in creating and presenting test pages or wireframes


Desirable Education and Experiences:

  • One year of professional experience in using Google Analytics and/or additional analytics platforms to make informed decisions
  • Experience in using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Experience using Modern Campus CMS
  • Experience using Localist Events Calendar
  • Experience using Wordpress
  • Experience in applying web accessibility principles
  • Experience in using Asana or other project management software


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to create and organize content and create a content analysis
  • Demonstrated understanding of web design and user experience principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of search engine optimization
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and thrive on challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly self-motivated, proactively prioritize multiple tasks and feedback, create, document, and execute project plans, meet deadlines, and display attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and correct digital content issues and apply creativity and imagination to problem-solving
  • Demonstrated ability to understand client needs, provide quality service, persuasively present ideas, and commit to customer satisfaction
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions based on University, UMC, and department missions
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people
  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment


Work Environment And/Or Physical Demands:

  • The work environment is that of an open-concept office setting
  • Walking or driving to and from client meetings is necessary
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): none required
