Position Overview And Vision

The Financial Controller will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for shaping and driving the company’s financial strategy and operations for North America, including the US and Canada. Reporting directly to the CFO of North America, this role provides strategic leadership, vision, and guidance, ensuring the development and implementation of a comprehensive and compliant financial program that aligns with the organization’s goals and values. The Financial Controller will oversee financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the reporting environment, developing audit-ready policies and procedures, and supporting business growth. This role will also be responsible for reporting financial results and liaising with HQ in Germany to ensure alignment with global standards and requirements.

Financial Reporting

  • Develop and manage a robust, accurate, and timely monthly close process, including applicable internal controls.
  • Ensure US GAAP compliance and liaise with German HQ on reporting requirements, including German GAAP requirements applicable to year-end financials.
  • Ensure the accuracy of financial statements (Income, Balance Sheet, Equity, and Cash Flow) including internal reporting requirements on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure accuracy of monthly intercompany eliminations.

Internal Controls

  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and organizational expenditures.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to local legal standards.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.

Process Efficiency And Automation

  • Drive process efficiency and automation to streamline financial operations and improve accuracy.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies and technologies that expedite, simplify, and improve the value of the accounting, reporting, and payables-related processes.
  • Leverage the financial system to automate reporting.

Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of 5 members and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
  • Develop the team through effective goal setting and performance management, ongoing feedback, and fostering strategic thinking for talent development and succession planning.
  • Leverage the strengths of finance team members to continuously improve capabilities.

Audits And Reporting

  • Coordinate the annual audit process with external auditors.
  • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting process audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepare special reports as needed by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership for financial operations, including financial reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate with senior executives to create a financially sound and sustainable organization.

Other Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expenses to ensure financial accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and legal requirements.
  • Provide input supporting the annual business planning process and quarterly forecasting process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, including 5 years in a team leadership role.
  • Preferred experience with Big 4 or regional accounting firms.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, financial best practices, regulations, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing comprehensive financial programs.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
