Credit Reporting Specialist I

Purpose

Responsibilities include working directly with Senior Specialists and Manager to respond to direct and indirect credit disputes, conduct credit reporting related research, and perform maintenance as needed to correct credit information transmitted to the credit bureau(s). Focus is on accuracy of furnished credit data, compliance with applicable lending regulations, and adequacy of documentation. The role involves communication with members, branch employees, Loan Administration staff, as well as other internal departments. The Specialist should be detail oriented, be able to work independently, and possess good organizational skills. This role requires the exercise of independent judgment, effective navigation of ambiguity, ownership acceptance of tasks and responsibilities, and completion of tasks within timelines and deadlines established.

Duties

Business Support – Works on the development or revision and implementation of policies, procedures, services, products, and systems to ensure accurate credit reporting and timely dispute response. Work proactively with the appropriate teams to investigate direct and indirect disputes and with other business units to investigate credit reporting related complaints. Must have an ability to investigate situations thoroughly and provide reports timely and completely. Assists with the development of reports to monitor dispute activity and FCRA compliance. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate policy and process enhancements. Reports on potential risk factors and data gaps.

Project Management – Assists with the development and execution of enterprise-wide initiatives required to address weaknesses. Monitors initiative impact and creates methods of measuring performance, compliance, and effectiveness. Ensures proper documentation and reporting for each initiative.

Consultation - Considers impact on Credit Union employees, members, costs, and efficiencies before providing recommendations to management on appropriate action. Offers consultative guidance to business leaders throughout the execution of necessary changes. Assist with action plans related to credit reporting.

Credit Reporting Expertise - Maintains a strong current knowledge of federal and state lending regulations, the CDIA Guide, Metro2 reporting standards, and Credit Union lending policies and procedures, as related to furnishing and disputing credit data. Serves as a resource and subject matter expert on credit reporting and related regulations, including FCRA and FACTA.

Collaboration - Appropriately assess risk when decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the company’s reputation and safeguarding SECU, its members and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting issues with transparency.

Assist with projects, regulatory examinations, internal audits, and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Must have 2-3 years of credit reporting or equivalent experience.

Strong familiarity and experience with consumer compliance laws, regulations, and guidance and ability to perform independent research.

Must be proficient using available resources to locate and acquire information regarding lending regulations, as well as credit union policies and guidelines.

Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills, with high attention to detail.

Experience in a consumer compliance risk management environment.

Solid understanding of consumer and real estate lending.

Knowledge of CFPB examination procedures.

Experience working with Excel, Word, Access, databases, e-Oscar and/or other third party credit reporting/dispute resolution software is preferred.

Must display high level of technical aptitude navigating lending origination and servicing systems.

Obtain licenses/certifications as needed based on job responsibilities.

Must be willing to engage in ongoing training and professional development.

Must be able to cooperate and collaborate with co-workers.

Must be self-motivated and not require daily supervision.

Must be able to speak English fluently.

Must be cordial in all interactions with members and co-workers.

Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policies established by the Credit Union.

Promotion Requirements From Salary Grade 19 To 22

  • Demonstrated proficiency with assignments
  • Expert understanding of Credit Reporting and Disputes department procedures and lending regulations
  • Mentor new and less experienced employees

Job Environment

Hybrid in-office and work from home schedule. In-office setting that has physical proximity to other employees. Some background noise from other employees, copy machine, and telephone. Work from home requires quiet, private working environment free from noise and disruption in order to maintain a professional at home working arrangement.

Physical Demands

Must be able to comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Job requires a substantial amount of sitting.

Use hands and fingers to press keys on a computer keyboard to enter or retrieve information.

Use hands and fingers to press telephone keypad and lift telephone receiver.

Must be able to comprehend phone calls.

Must be able to lift 5 pounds.
