The Bureau of Information Systems and Technology provides a full range of technology support services for key business functions and Charter mandated responsibilities of the Comptroller’s Office. These service include: technology strategic planning, web site development, graphic design, disaster recovery, systems development, network administration, audio/visual services, business process re-engineering, change management, program management, security administration, help desk, computer operations, telecommunications, and document management.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Network and Operations, the Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the Database Management System. They will also be involved in the planning and development of the database as well as troubleshooting any issues. Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Network and Operations, the Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the Database Management System. They will also be involved in the planning and development of the database as well as troubleshooting any issues. Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Developing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages for ETL and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report generation;
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database;
- Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database;
- Installing, upgrading and testing new versions of the DBMS;
- Maintaining data standards;
- Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);
- Controlling access permissions and privileges;
- Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;
- Capacity planning;
- Working with infrastructure teams to allocate system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system;
- Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers;
- Contacting database vendor for technical support;
- Generating various reports by querying from database as needed; and,
- Perform related assignments and special projects, as may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and one year of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, maintenance and support, systems programming, data communications, mainframe development, mobile development, web development and design; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in "1" above; or
- Education and or/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in "2" above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, 24 semester credits from an accredited college or graduate school in computer science or a related field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above.
- 1-2 years serving as Database Administrator of MS SQL Server environment (2008 and higher) - Strong in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report generation - Experience in Data Modeling, Database design and well versed with SQL Server best practices - Experience creating and maintaining an extraction, transformation and leading process from source systems or files to a database - Ability to extract data (manually and automated) according to specified requirements, business logic and output format - Knowledge and experience with MySQL and Oracle - Ability to work in a team environment, plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously and strong communication skills are required.
