Project Description

The Patent Trial and Appeal Case Tracking System (P-TACTS) is a system designed for the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (Board) for the purpose of electronically filing documents in connection with the Inter Partes Disputes established under the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA).

Position Description

Our P-TACTS team is actively seeking a Senior Database Administrator with a strong emphasis on administering PostgreSQL and familiarity with AWS Aurora. This vital role requires comprehensive expertise in cloud technologies, database migrations from on-prem to AWS Cloud, CI/CD principles, and a strong foundation in AWS. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced skills in administering managed and non-managed databases in the cloud and a strong foundation in security databases.

Responsibilities

• Database Design and Architecture: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases on AWS Aurora, ensuring robust architecture, scalability, and high availability.
• Performance Optimization: Optimize and tune database performance, including query tuning, indexing strategies, and performance monitoring using advanced tools and techniques.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures, including data encryption, access controls, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
• Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement comprehensive backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime in case of failures.
• Automation and Scripting: Automate routine database management tasks using scripts and AWS tools to enhance efficiency and reduce manual interventions.
• Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development teams to provide database support, troubleshoot issues, and optimize application performance related to database operations.
• Automating the deployment of new databases using Terraform
• Automating the patching and upgrading of databases
  
  

Requirements

• PostgreSQL Administration: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
• AWS Aurora Proficiency: Proven expertise with AWS Aurora, understanding its architecture, features, and best practices for deployment and management.
• Performance Tuning: Strong skills in database performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing, and performance monitoring.
• Security Practices: Thorough understanding of database security principles, including data encryption, access controls, and compliance requirements.
• Automation Skills: Proficiency in Terraform and scripting languages (e.g. Bash) and experience with AWS automation tools to streamline database operations.
• Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues effectively.
  
  

Salary Ranges: $100,000 - 175,000
