Dean of Culture

Wissahickon Charter School is seeking a Dean of Culture for our Fernhill campus. The Dean of Culture is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and positive school environment through implementation of the behavior management program. Working closely with the Director of School Culture, Principals and Director of Learning Support, the Dean of Culture plays a key role in creating a learning community that promotes social-emotional growth and provides students with opportunities to learn from their decisions. The Dean of Culture develops and maintains behavior plans for individual students, tracks and analyzes student behavior data to inform decisions, and supports teachers and other staff members with the implementation of WCS' behavioral management system. They also model how to build strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families through the use of proactive strategies. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and persistent, and will have a record of positively impacting student behavior. They must also possess a deep-seated belief that all children can succeed. Reporting to the Director of School Culture, this is an outstanding opportunity to improve the social-emotional and academic outcomes of children from across the city of Philadelphia. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate closely with the school leadership team to ensure a safe and positive school culture Under the guidance of the Director of School Culture, implement a school-wide behavior management system with meaningful consequences and positive rewards. Plan and execute monthly student celebrations for positive behaviors. Address day-to-day discipline matters, including working with students who are sent out of the classroom, contacting parents, scheduling meetings, monitoring and enforcing school rules, and being responsible for students who may be on probation for discipline related matters Work closely with children who have behavior challenges and their families, and provide the ongoing mentorship and direction they need to be successful at WCS Partner with the Director of School culture, counselors and teachers to execute individualized behavior plans when needed Collect student discipline data and use data to proactively make informed decisions that support the students' needs Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and lead meetings about students' tiers of support. Be a presence during school entry, recess, dismissal and transitions Model Wissahickon Charter Schools' professional and core values at all times Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of School Culture Qualifications Bachelor's degree strongly preferred At least two years of teaching or school culture experience with demonstrated excellence in behavior management skills Experience working in an urban school setting or with children and families with diverse backgrounds and needs Prior training in behavioral management techniques; experience with Responsive Classroom and PBIS approach strongly preferred Proven ability to proactively lead by example Receptive to coaching and an ability to implement changes from feedback Superior organizational skills and the ability to maintain systems and processes related to school culture and discipline Ability to track and utilize data to measure progress and manage accountability Outstanding oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate across a diverse range of stakeholders and constituents (children, parents, staff, etc.) Commitment to the mission of Wissahickon Charter School and the belief that all children can learn About Wissahickon Charter School Wissahickon Charter School's first campus, Fernhill, opened in 2002 and serves 480 K-8 students from across Philadelphia. Our second K-8 campus, Awbury, opened in the fall of 2014.
