ROLE:

COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and working collaboratively with other DCMOs in the oversight and management of all clinical functions as well as promoting the organizational vision. The DCMO will support the CMO with the integrations of medical, academic, specialty, and other related service lines as well as work in a cross-functional collegial and collaborative manner with other executives and staff. The DCMO will have accountability/ownership and responsibility to lead and manage a number of medical directors and staff providers, (physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, other).

As a Staff Physician, the DCMO will examine and treat common acute illnesses, injuries, accidents and other injuries and illnesses, perform most medical services routinely handled within the scope of the physician’s practice and which the staff physician is competent to perform. Perform selected laboratory testing, refer to specialists as needed, write prescriptions, and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. This physician executive will maintain an FTE status of 0.4 managing administrative duties and the remaining FTE will be balanced with direct clinical care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the CMO and collaborate with the other DCMO with direction and oversight of all daily aspects of the clinical functions of the organization.
  • In the absence of the CMO, the DCMOs will oversee all service lines.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance clinical performance, effectiveness, efficiencies, productivity, and compliance.
  • Monitor, recommend and revise clinical policies and procedures related to everyday functioning of the primary care service line.
  • Manage needs for privilege and proctoring of new provider staff as needed.
  • Assist with ensuring clinical compliance with the FQHC program requirements.
  • Provide the CMO support with the direction of empanelment.
  • Provide the CMO support with system wide oversight of medical directors by providing clarity, and direction and removing obstacles that may impede the medical director’s success.
  • Support the CMO with pilot initiatives of the organization.
  • Expansion and support of where leadership is needed that is outside of an area medical director, e.g. the overseeing spread of successful pilot initiatives.
  • Support the ongoing provider recruitment and retention efforts at STRIDE.
  • Support the ongoing leadership development of the team of medical directors and others.
  • Using signal data, identifying, and supporting providers in need of support with EMR training, retraining, and STRIDE procedures to offload providers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the CEO, CMO, and Executive Leadership.

  • Knowledge of current social and economic challenges pertaining to public health and their impact of primary health care.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data, incorporating it into strategic leadership and decision making.
  • Able to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, creativity to changes needs and situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to successful completion at a given time.
  • Ability to demonstrate the capability to respond to the needs and concerns of the full range of STRIDE CHC's diverse employees and patient population effectively and sensitively.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • MD/DO required
  • Current Colorado state medical licensure in good standing required
  • BC/BE with Family Medicine, Pediatrics, other disciplines required
  • At least four (4) years experience with leadership (leading people) of a healthcare service organization
  • Preferred experience with utilization and quality management as well as physician practice management
  • Preferred prior experience with Patient Centered Medical Home model of care delivery

Working Environment/physical Activities:

  • Office environment within a clinical setting. Moves about the office environment and to other locations. Moves objects up to 25lbs and 50lbs occasionally. Communicates information to others. Discerns/analyzes information from others to assist in decision making. Enters data into computer programs via computer, mouse, and keyboard.
