Designer II
Job Description
The Designer I/ II manually and electronically designs and drafts detailed drawings, such as wiring diagrams and layout drawings for construction projects. Evaluates design work and supporting documents to verify conformance to industry codes and customer specific specifications and standards. Reviews scope of work and performs field assessments, provides all engineering calculations, performs fuse coordination, and calculates the required spacing for number of phases and equipment. Will maintain QA/QC processes and requirements.
Qualifications
The Designer I/ II manually and electronically designs and drafts detailed drawings, such as wiring diagrams and layout drawings for construction projects. Evaluates design work and supporting documents to verify conformance to industry codes and customer specific specifications and standards. Reviews scope of work and performs field assessments, provides all engineering calculations, performs fuse coordination, and calculates the required spacing for number of phases and equipment. Will maintain QA/QC processes and requirements.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of electrical distribution design principles in both overhead and underground applications
- 2 or more years of experience in electrical design
- 2 or more years of AutoCAD or GIS experience in electrical distribution design preferred
- Knowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and standards
- Knowledge of design and operating standards as well as the ability to learn and implement customer specific design and operating standards
- Ability to plan and schedule work independently, to complete designs for large and/or complex systems
- Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry required to perform complex calculation
- Excellent communication skill
- Field experience preferred
- Telecom experience preferred
- Experience working with Outside Plant Engineering in the following systems: AutoCAD, and or client-specific GIS software; Familiarity with pole loading software (Katapult, OCALC, SpidaCalc, etc.).
