DIY Girls mission is to increase girls’ and gender-expansive youth’s interest and long-term success in technology, engineering, and making through innovative educational experiences and mentor relationships. DIY Girls provides STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) - based educational programs and workshops designed to promote girls’ and gender-expansive youth’s engagement and exploration with technology, encourage self-confidence, and support aspiration to technical careers.
Position
The Development Manager will directly support the Director of External Affairs and Communications with meeting or exceeding the yearly revenue targets while identifying strategies for year-to-year growth. The Development Manager will co-supervise the Development and Communications Associate, and supervise contracted consultants as needed.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), Exempt level position. Salary: $70,000-$90,000, dependent on experience. Benefits include: Vacation Time; Sick Time; Personal Time; Parental Leave; Medical/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance; 401(k) and nonelective employer contribution equal to 4% of your eligible compensation; 13 paid holidays. This position will report to the Director of External Affairs and Communications and is a hybrid position (remote and in-person). Our office is located in San Fernando (Northeast San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles), with some travel to school and partner sites.
Responsibilities
The key tasks and areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Grant Management (40%)
Manage a continuous pipeline of grants and reports to ensure timely submission
Write and submit letters of intent, grant proposals, and reports to funders
Develop annual grant projections and lead grants strategy and implementation
Research prospective corporate, foundation, and government grants to identify new funding opportunities
Continuously monitor philanthropic trends in grant opportunities within the Los Angeles region and nationally in STEM/STEAM fields
Gala and Event Planning (30%)
Lead the planning and execution of our annual gala to ensure the financial success, including securing and managing sponsorships, coordinating honorees, and serving as staff liaison to our Gala Committee
Collaborate with an event planner as needed for seamless event execution
Relationship Management (20%)
Cultivate and manage relationships with corporations and foundations
Identify and engage corporate sponsors in partnership/engagement opportunities
Support the Executive Director with funder site visits and meetings
Meet with new, prospective, and ongoing funders and host funders at program sites
Present to funders and prospective funders about our work and mission, articulating the impact and importance of our programs
Represent the organization at networking events and fundraising functions
Other Duties (10%)
Support with individual and major donor engagement and fundraising campaigns as needed
Co-supervise the Development and Communications Associate to ensure timely tracking of development activities including events, relationships/contacts, donations, grants, gift acknowledgments, and fundraising results
Oversee the continuous documentation and refinement of development department policies and procedures
Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs and Communications to ensure that all communications and development strategies are aligned
Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's goals and initiatives
Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with a passion for DIY Girls’ mission, excellent organization skills, consistency, and reliability. The successful candidate will effectively lead and manage development activities, partner with the Director of External Affairs and Communications, and work collaboratively with the team.
Preferred minimum 2-3 years experience in non-profit development, including grant writing/management, event planning, and relationship management with funders
Knowledge of philanthropic landscape in Los Angeles
Demonstrated leadership and management skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail, task prioritization, and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to cultivate donor and funder relationships
Strong presentation skills
Ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
Experience with Salesforce, Airtable, or other fundraising CRM platform preferred
Must be available on occasional evenings and weekends for networking and fundraising events
Livescan Fingerprinting and T.B. Test will be required
Physical requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to push, pull, carry, and lift up to 20 pounds at times
