Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Officer is innovative development professional responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing major and principal gifts to Museum of the Bible. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build visibility, impact, and financial resources for the Museum of the Bible. The Development Officer will be a primary participant in developing and implementing the major gift program alongside the Chief Development Officer and fellow teammates. They will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects to expand and diversify the Museum of the Bible’s donor base/pipeline. You will work closely with other members of the organization to secure funding for new initiatives. An ability to empathize with donors and clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Set SMART regional giving goals annually with CDO
- Secure major gifts at the $100,000 to $1M level with the goal of raising $2M annually, with developed portfolio
- Track and report relationship management activity using constituent relationship management system (SalesForce), including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, proposal submission and stewardship of prospective and current individual major donors
- Act as primary manager for a portfolio of up to 200 accounts, to move potential and current donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, maintaining a balance between discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Cultivate and expand planned giving opportunities with new and existing donors, and integrate planned gift objectives into major individual donor requests (in collaboration w/CDO)
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations
- Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition
- Identify & build relationships with new and prospective donors
- Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity to achieve individual performance measures (e.g. meetings, proposals, major gift revenue)
- Maintain budget for assigned travel and projects
- Support the Chief Development Officer by performing additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required
- 8+ years of successful, demonstrated experience in major or planned gift fundraising
- Must embrace the mission of the organization.
- Have knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
- Experience in developing clear and concise funding proposals.
- Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff.
- Have the desire to build relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
- Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
- Attention to detail and strong project management skills, ability to work as part of a tea and professional attitude and appearance as required
- Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
- Ability to be in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for 50% of the time
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SalesForce, Wrike
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, and must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and working with minimal supervision
- Working Conditions/Requirements:
- Position requires travel (local and out of state), and at times work in the evenings and weekends.
