The Director, Network Engineering will plan, architect, and manage all activities in the Engineering department, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective network solutions and associated systems to meet current and future needs of the business across all Vero Broadband (VB) FTTH (Fiber to the Home) markets. This position is eligible to be remote.
They will be responsible for:
Developing FTTH network architectures and design standards that align with business objectives
Working with the broader VB team to implement market-specific solutions consistent with these architectures and standards
Evaluating technology and vendor solutions to build and maintain best-in-class FTTH networks
Negotiating supply and support contracts with selected vendors
Providing and maintaining network documentation for each market to ensure quick troubleshooting response during network outages
Providing tier 2/3 support during network outages and maintenance activities
Managing technical network solutions and frameworks
Upgrading network hardware and software components as required
Performing network planning, capacity modeling, and analysis to meet subscriber and bandwidth growth
Installing, configuring and maintaining all network hardware, including Ethernet switches/routers,
WDM switches, fixed wireless base stations and associated infrastructure/cabling
Designing, implementing and managing security countermeasures to protect against threats and lead response when network vulnerabilities arise
Proactively monitor and report on overall network service performance and take action to correct deficiencies in monitoring and controlling the quality of the network
The Director, Network Engineering will be expected to perform the above responsibilities themselves initially, while building a small engineering/operations team and transitioning to more of a leadership role
Desired Skills and Experience
Strong experience in Ethernet & IP networking, and in the telecom field in general
Ability to design a large network with complex network technology, optimizing tradeoffs of functionality, scalability, and cost
Excellent TCP/ IP networking skills
Experience with MPLS technology including L2/L3 VPN and traffic engineering
Excellent skills in configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches, firewalls
Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS and BGP)
Expertise in IP backbone, IP backhaul design and implementation
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools)
Solid understanding of Juniper, Calix, Ubiquiti, Cambium network operating systems
Organizational and mentoring skills
Strong troubleshooting skills
Experience in fixed wireless network design & implementation is a plus
Effective communication skills and learning capability
Skilled on use of MS Visio, G-Suite, and MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
