The University of Tennessee Southern enthusiastically invites applications for the newly created Director of Career Development inthe Office of Enrollment Management and Student affairs. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Director is to develop, coordinate and deliver career development services, programming, and support for UT Southern students and alumni.
As Director of Career Development for UT Southern, this position will lead students as they identify and develop career goals, find suitable careers, or graduate school programs, provide referrals to employers and boost networking skills. This role also has a presence in the community with networking opportunities and building relationships for our students.
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Career Fairs
Plan and promote undergraduate and graduate school Career Fairs for the campus.
Collaborate with faculty and students to invite quality employees for consideration of employment, internships and/or job shadowing experience.
Recruit and manage employer visits to campus along with student engagement and marketing team.
Collaborate with faculty and students to invite quality programs for our students to consider.
Workshops and Seminars
Implement multiple Career Development workshops campus wid:
Choose relevant topics
Schedule and market workshops/seminars for students
Collaborate with faculty, staff and alumni to increase student engagement and supplement current curriculum when possible.
Individual Career Coaching
Schedule meetings with students to discuss the following:
Vocational discernment/assessments
Job shadowing opportunities
Internship/networking opportunities
Resume development/ Interview preparation
Graduate school programs and preparation
Additional Duties
Manage and promote Handshake (employment platform) across campus.
Classroom presentations on a multitude of career services-related topics.
Data Management and reporting on employment rates, internship placements, and graduate school acceptances.
Facilitate conversations and collaboration between the university and potential community partners for training and certifications.
Maintains website for current information and resources for the Career Services.
Serves on the Workforce Development Committee on behalf of the University with a mission to prepare the youth of Giles County for their future.
