POSITION

Are you a results-driven professional with a passion for fundraising and a knack for strategic development? Join our team as the Director of Development and take on a pivotal role in securing our organization’s future! You'll spearhead innovative fundraising strategies, focusing on new gifts and upgrading existing ones through a diverse portfolio of private and public foundations. You'll be part of a dynamic and goal-focused Development team, known for their creativity and dedication in inspiring support across the organization. As we expand our scope and volume, your role will be crucial in growing our team and enhancing our capacity to sustain and elevate our mission.

Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, you'll collaborate with a talented team that includes a Senior Director of Development, a Director of Development, and a Development Manager. Are You Someone Who Enjoys

  • Developing and managing a diverse portfolio of funders, including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting?
  • Collaborating with programmatic leadership to cultivate and steward high-potential funding opportunities?
  • Working with the overall Development team to achieve shared goals, such as increasing donor retention, growing revenue, and advancing donors up the pipeline?
  • Partnering with finance, communications, and other cross-departmental colleagues to compile impactful reports for funders and report on grant deliverables?

As a Development Professional, Do You Have Expertise In

  • Maintaining and increasing donor engagement and securing gifts through personalized correspondence, concept briefs, proposals, presentations, in-person visits, and other relationship-building methods?
  • Leading the preparation of high-quality concept notes, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and narrative reports for a variety of funders and prospects?
  • Effectively using Salesforce CRM to maintain accurate records of all client and prospect interactions?

If you've answered affirmatively to these questions and meet the following prerequisites, we urge you to seize this opportunity. This role calls for the following:

  • Fundraising Experience: Minimum of 7 years in fundraising, with a strong preference for experience in foundation giving.
  • Securing Major Gifts: Proven track record of securing gifts up to $500,000.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Ability to collaborate and influence across teams, fostering effective cross-team collaboration.
  • Grant Writing Expertise: Solid understanding of grant writing principles and practices, including research, administration, and monitoring.
  • Grant Resources Knowledge: Familiarity with grant writing resources, funding information, and online/electronic grant submission systems.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in technology.
  • Compelling Storytelling: Ability to conceptualize and describe funding needs compellingly to a diverse range of external audiences.
  • Confidentiality and Integrity: Proven ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational Skills: High level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Commitment to Educational Equity: Passion for and commitment to educational equity.
  • Content Knowledge: Ability to quickly develop deep content knowledge and effectively share it with prospective funders.
  • Collaborative and Virtual Work: Desire and ability to work collaboratively and virtually with staff members across teams.
  • Nonprofit Experience: Previous work experience with nonprofits is required, with a preference for experience with educational nonprofits.

Travel Requirements

  • This is a remote position that requires up to 15% travel
  • National travel for org retreats, programming, job related travel, donor meetings or professional development
  • Outside of the above mentioned travel, this person will work from a home office that must be located anywhere within the U.S.

Benefits

  • Compensation:
    • The compensation range for this position is between $89,811, with a midpoint of $116,755, and a maximum of $143,698 annually. Candidates, either newly hired or new to the role, can typically expect a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications and internal equity.
  • Benefits:
    • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees. Additional premium costs are covered 60% by Leading Educators for partners and dependents on medical, dental, and vision plans.
    • 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits are valued at or above $9,000 for employees.
  • Time Off:
    • First three years of employment, full time staff accrue 22 days a year.
    • Five additional days are accrued after the third and sixth year of employment.
    • Leading Educators also offer 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays staff may use at their discretion.
