This role will work remotely; however, the candidate must live on the West Coast (Washington or Oregon). Travel will be required, approximately 25%.

Position Summary

The Director of Labor and Employee Relations is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Director of Labor and Employee Relations will oversee and manage all aspects of employee and labor relations, including collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance resolution, and compliance with labor laws and regulations.

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages team of employee/labor relations specialists and serves as escalation point for investigations/grievances
  • Develops and implements labor and employee relations strategies to achieve company goals and objectives
  • Manages and coordinates collective bargaining negotiations with union representatives
  • Administers and interprets collective bargaining agreements
  • Investigates and resolves employee grievances and complaints
  • Develops and implements employee relations strategies to promote a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Investigates and resolves employee complaints and concerns, including those related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • Ensures compliance with labor laws and regulations, including FLSA, NLRA, and OSHA
  • Provides guidance and support to HR COEs, operations leadership and field HRBPs on labor relations matters
  • Develops and conducts training programs for employees and management on labor relations and conflict resolution topics
  • Collaborates with HR and other departments to ensure consistency and alignment of employee and labor relations policies and practices
  • Analyzes and reports on labor relations metrics and trends
  • Collaborates with internal and external legal teams on employment litigation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or related field: 4 years of additional experience in lieu of degree.
  • Master's degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership in labor relations or contract negotiations, preferably in the healthcare industry
  • Experience in a healthcare, hospice or home health setting preferred.

Skills

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces integrated healthcare at home philosophy.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Proven experience in collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance resolution. Strong knowledge of labor laws and regulations. Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, union representatives, and management. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Certification as a Labor Relations Professional (CLRP) or similar certification preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Compensation range: $115,000 - $161,000
