Universal Education Companies is seeking dynamic and passionate Director of Social Services to work in an urban K-8 School setting in Philadelphia, PA. The Director of Social Services will oversee efforts regarding every student: attendance, discipline management, transfer process, community outreach, and social/emotional health and wellbeing. The incumbent will oversee support staff.
Duties And Responsibilities
Student Discipline Management/Safety
Manage the District admissions, transfer, and discipline process
Monitor and address student residency concerns
Coordinate the District-wide anti-bullying and character education programs
Continual growth and professional development to ensure District compliance with local, state, and federal requirements
Update, train, and publish the Student Code of Conduct
Train, monitor, and support the implementation of District initiatives
Assist administrators/behavior support specialists with fair and consistent administration of discretionary DAEP placements
Monitor discipline trends and work with behavior support specialist and discipline/attendance committees to develop diagnostic plans to specifically address identified needs at the school level and trends district-wide
Work directly with campus principals and campus behavior coordinators to transition students into and out of the DAEP.
Conduct thorough, impartial investigations regarding areas of assignment
Work in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and
Assessment and campus counselors to coordinate counselor efforts to streamline related programs
Develop and monitor programs and initiatives to address student needs in the areas of social/emotional development, attendance, discipline, and student safety on a micro and a macro scale
Other duties as assigned
Community Relations
Develop and maintain programs that work to strengthen the home/school connection
Work with community agencies to support positive behavioral choices for students and positive consequences
Support parent/guardian referrals to outside agencies for assistance
Student Attendance Management
Work directly with principals and attendance committee to recognize attendance trends and concerns in a timely manner
Ensure timely notification to parents/guardians regarding concerns with student attendance, i.e. 90% attendance rule
Work closely with administrators, parents, and officials regarding truancy laws
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and evaluate performance of support staff
Qualifications
Education/Experience
Master’s degree in Social Work (LSW Preferred)
Education experience, highly preferred
Three-five years experience in an education setting
