Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, the Director of Student Services oversees academic advising for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Business Administration (CBA).

  • Provides leadership and planning for all aspects of the undergraduate advising function in the College of Business Administration (CBA), including retention efforts and progress toward degree attainment, development of informational materials for students and faculty training.
  • Advises graduate students.
  • Assigns advisors by matching faculty load and expertise with student needs.
  • Works with Records & Registration to resolve transcript and audit issues.
  • Serves as an archivist and problem solver for students during registration; evaluates transfers; and provides initial advising during orientation period for entering students.
  • Plans and organizes CBA’s contribution to university recruiting events.
  • Meets with prospective graduate students regarding program choices.
  • Serves as a resource during orientation sessions.
  • Evaluates all transcripts for prerequisites and graduate substitution credit.
  • Assists with interpretation of catalog and requirements for students, staff, faculty and visitors.
  • Monitors and assists with student registration.
  • Facilitates graduate petitions and processes paperwork.
  • Conducts final degree audits and clears students for graduation.
  • Assists students with add/drop issues, dismissal, probation, etc.
  • Supervises, coaches and evaluates staff, including graduate assistants.
  • Serves as a member of the CBA Dean’s Council and Graduate Dean’s Council and as faculty advisor for the MBA Association.
  • Represents CBA in groups that consider student services policy across the university.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Master’s degree in business, technology or related field. Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience may be considered.

Knowledge of student development theory. Familiarity with AACSB-International standards and CBA degree programs/requirements. Ability to work effectively on a variety of projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public. Effective interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision-making and team-building skills. Ability to advise and oversee the advising function. Ability to work with diverse stakeholders across the college and university. Proven leadership and supervisory skills. Dedication to strong customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. College-level teaching and/or advising experience.
