Director, People Sciences
The Director, People Sciences is responsible for developing an enterprise wide people sciences vision and research science roadmap for T-Mobile, working with senior HR leadership and aligning with senior leadership partners. The role also includes setting high standards in research science, mentoring and developing team members, and actively recruiting new research scientists. The role requires studying and surfacing enterprise wide business and people related phenomenon using systematic methods of hypothesis testing, data collection, quantitatively analyzing/interpreting data using sophisticated statistical techniques, and delivering technical and business facing reports to answer key questions of interest.
The Director, People Sciences leads research design, sampling, technical analysis, insights delivery, and post hoc measurement of critical research experiments, pilots, and programs that are focused on evaluating specific, testable hypotheses. There is an expectation of diving deep to identify the underlying root cause of a business problem; demonstrating strong scientific judgment; identifying technical, program, and/or solutions trade-offs; effectively translating technical methods and deep insights into simple solutions/actions/behaviors that can be easily deployed; and delivering measurable impact by integrating scientific insights (that have been statistically validated and are technically bar raising) into scalable T-Mobile wide tools, programs, products, and mechanisms to advance the overall T-Mobile People Strategy.
This role will require thinking big and executing on cutting-edge network analytics, ML/AI, and Deep Learning models to analyze sophisticated datasets and innovate in people sciences. While research science roles overlap with work done by data scientists, research science is a distinct practice with a unique focus on hypothesis testing and explain-ability of research insights and working towards scalable and pragmatic enterprise wide solutions.
Hybrid role based in Bellevue, WA or Overland Park, KS.
Un-carrier® Responsibilities
- Develop a vision, 3-year plan, and 12-month research science roadmap working across the senior HR leadership team and aligning with senior leadership partners; build and deploy mechanisms for reviewing roadmap, goals, and trade-off decisions with executive collaborators.
- Proactively identify and solve T-Mobile enterprise-wide large-scale complex, undefined employee experience, talent, and organizational capability business problems and deliver research science plans and solutions with minimal guidance.
- Build and execute on long-term plans for developing and integrating a diverse and sophisticated set of active and passive data sources to be used for qualitative and quantitative modeling; implement scalable and automated processes for large-scale data analysis, AI/ML model development, validation, and deployment.
- Set and maintain the high bar standards in research science across the T-Mobile HR people sciences team, which includes mentoring, sharing expertise and developing team members, publishing research science findings, and actively recruiting new people science research scientists.
- Develop and implement innovative network analytics, AI/ML and Deep Learning models to analyze datasets to innovate in people sciences and enable evaluation of causal impact.
- Build and run true A/B and quasi-experimental designs to assess the impact of mechanisms, programs, and various tested solutions that align to the overall people strategy; evaluate research initiatives to provide bottom line value, return on investment and improvements.
- Translate technical research findings in to clear, concise, and engaging reporting narratives and presentations that lead to decisions and large-scale applications across the employee lifecycle; use findings across multiple science studies to influence the long-term T-Mobile People Strategy.
- Collaborate with multiple teams and account teams to influence, build consensus, and drive significant T-Mobile wide changes related to applying research science proposals and recommendations, including changes to programs, engineering and system needs, and people strategy roadmaps.
The Experience You’ll Bring
- 10+ years of experience with end-to-end ownership for building and driving science strategy, roadmap development, and business accountability mechanisms for MBR, QBR, and program reviews (Required)
- 4-7 years of experience setting high standards for people sciences, coaching and mentoring others against those standards, and hiring high-bar research scientists (Required)
- 1-3 years of experience with Gen AI for foundational models and LLM and leveraging for analytics (Required)
- 10+ years combined experience of deep technical skills and business savvy to interface and influence all levels and subject areas (Required)
- Proven track record advocating technical solutions to business audiences, HR executives, and tech teams (Required)
- Familiar with one or more program languages such as Python, C#/C+, Java, or Perl (Preferred)
- Experience building and deploying true and quasi-experimental research designs that pragmatically land with the business (Required)
- Validated experience in predictive modeling, network analysis, building and deploying AI/ML models and hands on experience developing deep learning models (Required)
- Experience writing and speaking about technical concepts to business, technical, and lay audiences and giving data-driven presentations (Required)
- Experience articulating and translating business questions and using statistical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data (Required)
- Experience with statistical methods and sophisticated modeling techniques. For example: SVM, Random Forest, graph models, Bayesian inference, NLP, Computer Vision, neural networks (Required)
- Experience with data scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R) (Required)
- Experience in data visualization (Required)
- Extended experience working with relational database using SQL (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Math, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering (Required)
- Master’s Degree in I-O Psychology, Economics, or Applied Psychology w/emphases on research science and advanced statistics (Required)
