Director, Risk Management - Modesto, CA
Job Summary
The Director of Risk Management provides overall leadership and direction for the company’s risk management and compliance programs. The Director is responsible for the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide strategies while collaborating on activities and initiatives with strategic stakeholders throughout the company. This position leads, develops, and coaches the Risk Management and Compliance teams and partners with all levels of management to establish, update company policies, standards, programs, and training specific to these areas of oversight. This position also provides comprehensive oversight of third-party administrator services and insurance programs. The Director interacts with all levels of the organization to provide comprehensive oversight of all applicable local, state, and federal programs related to regulatory compliance in the retail grocery industry, distribution, and transportation.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Oversees liability programs for total company (e.g. workers’ compensation, general liability, automobile liability, etc); ensures compliance with applicable regulatory agencies
Identify, design, develop, and implement strategies for risk assessment and risk management to reduce risks and losses in the company.
Designs, develops, and implement strategic Risk programs, policies, and procedures to report, manage, and settle claims, including subrogation, product liability, workers compensation and related claims.
Collaborates with stakeholders of Environmental, Health and Safety, and Food Safety regulatory programs while a key stakeholder in company’s business continuity and crisis management committee
Manages and oversees regulatory programs for the total company, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local agencies and company standards (e.g. Alcohol, Beverage and Control, County of Origin Labeling, WIC/SNAP, BARS, Plastic Bag Ordinances, Weights & Measures compliance program, Controlled Substance Program, refrigeration, permits, HIPPA, PSE Self-Certification Store Program, etc.).
Works with senior management to establish acceptable levels of risk to be managed through self-insurance and appropriate deductibles.
Works with key stakeholders and third-party administrators on claims management strategies
Establishes effective performance metrics and measures and reports through a dashboard or metric to continually monitor and assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the programs (to include claims activity, allocation of reserves), against goals, successes and gap-analysis, identify trends and implement effective corrective measures
Remains up to date on risk, environmental, safety, and food safety laws and trends - applying new methods to Save Mart’s risk and safety programs
Accountable for functional management of department including strategic planning and project management, departmental budget oversight, analysis and projections, managing the daily activities of direct reports, contractors and vendors, and leading, coaching, training and developing staff
Schedule, facilitate and manage yearly actuarial process for reserve evaluations
Manages comprehensive procedure development process, including frequent review to ensure compliance with regulation changes/updates for the company (e.g. WIC, EBT, AML, Age Restricted Products, MoneyGram and Incomm program review, etc.)
Serves as the Company’s Compliance Officer for MoneyGram and Incomm Services (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering program, money orders, gift cards, etc.)
Manages restricted product compliance (research on regulations, communication with applicable agencies, creation or update of training, investigations, etc.)
Provides management and oversight of handling of inspection reports and corrective action/abatement, annual reporting and certifications, and oversight of company-wide signage/permit/license compliance.
Interacts with Government agencies and activities related to regulatory compliance.
Coordinates, evaluates, oversees and negotiates the company’s insurance programs, including identifying appropriate types, amounts, and features of insurance coverage
Identify potential insurance claims, and work with business stakeholder to manage through the claims process
Oversees/manages third party administrator(s); manages request for proposal process
Conducts ongoing review and analysis of potential exposures critical to the business
Ensures all reporting requirements are met for department (government, insurance, etc.)
Performs other duties as assigned
Hiring pay range: $129,948.00 - 170,557.00
