At Psylo, we are pioneering the development of next-generation therapeutics to treat central nervous system disorders. Our first objective is to develop widely accessible medications that offer improved treatments to standards of care for psychiatric and neurological illnesses by taking our inspiration from the promise of psychedelic molecules. We use cutting-edge technologies including computationally-enhanced drug discovery, to develop novel, potent compounds that can overcome the clinical limitations of conventional psychedelics as therapeutic agents. About the Role

Psylo is rapidly expanding, and after three years of rigorous drug-discovery has developed a differentiated pipeline of promising neuroplastogens which have been extensively optimized and screened. In line with a recent funding round Psylo is now a US Delaware c-corp with labs at Colorado University in Boulder, Colorado, and an Australian subsidiary with labs at University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.


Psylo seeks an experienced Business Development leader to play a crucial role in driving the growth and success of our organization through fundraising, strategic partnerships and investor relations. This pivotal role requires a deep understanding of the biopharma industry, coupled with exceptional business acumen, substantial industry network, and a proven track record in fundraising. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who has a strong scientific background, consulting and/or business development experience and a strong desire to roll up their sleeves and create meaningful business impact by helping shape the course of the company’s future growth.


This role will begin part time (2-3 days per week) with the expectation that hours will increase as needed. Travel will be required at times.


Location and Start Date

Remote, US based. Candidate must be able to work across time zones with team members in Australia and Colorado. Psylo has an office in Boulder; employees in this vicinity are welcome to join the team in person. This role is expected to have a start date in summer 2024.


Responsibilities


Partnerships and Business Development Strategy:

  • Develop and own a thoughtful hit list of mid-large pharmaceutical companies to target as potential commercial partners in sponsored research, codevelopment, or out licensing.
  • Initiate and lead discussions related to new business opportunities, looping in other members of the management team as needed. Track progress of these discussions in a customer relationship management toolset, providing regular status updates to the rest of the management team.
  • Negotiate and structure partnership agreements, including licensing deals and research collaborations, in partnership with the CEO, CFO, and other members of the management team.

Fundraising:

  • Develop and own a thoughtful hit list of venture capital funds, family offices, and high net worth individuals to target as potential investors. Build and maintain a robust network of investors.
  • Initiate and lead discussions with potential investors, industry partners, academic institutions, and research organizations to explore collaboration opportunities
  • Track progress of these discussions in a customer relationship management toolset, providing regular status updates to the rest of the management team.
  • Assist in negotiating and structuring investments in partnership with the CEO, CFO, and other members of the management team.
  • Investor Relations:
  • Coordinate and execute on regular communications with existing investors in the company
  • Ensure existing investors who have data rights are receiving the reporting they require.


Qualifications

  • MS/BS degree in life science or related field, MBA preferred.
  • 8-10 year’s experience in the biotech field
  • Proven experience in early stage biotech business development, fundraising, corporate development, due diligence, financial analysis, market and competitive research/analysis
  • Strong understanding of biotechnology market dynamics, including regulatory landscape, technology trends, and competitive positioning
  • Excellent communication, influencing and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. This includes becoming comfortable pitching our science and a basic understanding of the drug development process
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive initiatives forward in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Effective negotiator with a keen eye for detail and proficiency in deal structuring and contract negotiation
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, modeling, and valuation techniques.


Compensation

Base full time salary range of $150-200K (prorated for fractional start at 3 days per week) with additional performance based compensation of up to 200% and Employee Stock Option Plan.
