Summary
The Houston Symphony���s Education Coordinator position manages the logistics for Middle and Upper Elementary school groups attending the Houston Symphony’s Student Concerts Series. Additionally, this role involves providing general administrative support to the Education and Community Engagement department, including tasks such as organizing board meeting materials and facilitating logistics for Symphony musicians and Community-Embedded Musicians working in school and community settings.
Essential Job Functions
Manage registration for schools attending Student Concerts including creating and maintaining registration forms and wait-lists, inputting orders into ticketing database (Tessitura), sending and tracking receipt of follow-up documentation, and processing payments
Update and maintain email distribution lists in Excel
Send seating assignments and detailed day-of arrival instructions to each of the schools attending
Design concert or orchestra-related trivia/activity slide content displayed before and after concerts
Develop and print information packets and signage
Provide on-the-ground support on concert days, including distribution of radios, signage, and providing direction to volunteers
Provide administrative support for board committee and leadership council meetings, including purchasing refreshments as needed, taking minutes, and communicating relevant preparatory and follow-up information via email and phone
Assist with the preparation, planning, and day-of support for the Family Concert series
Provide additional general support for the Education and Community Engagement department as needed

Experience/background in classical music
A passion for music education; experience in music education is a plus
Two to three years of related, administrative work experience preferred
Strong customer service skills, including effective verbal and written communication
Superior interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Strong proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including advanced functions in Excel and PowerPoint
Proven experience with learning new software quickly; experience with Tessitura is a plus
Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
Secondary school education, GED or equivalent work experience; bachelor’s degree in related field (arts administration, business administration, music education or performance) preferred but not required
Availability
Average of 20 hours per week, between July 2024 and May 2025
At least 8 hours of the above should take place during the regular work-week (M-F/9am-5pm); remaining hours can be flexible
Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities
Must be available between 8am-2pm for all Student Concert dates in the 2024-25 season (Oct 29, Nov 6, Nov 19, Jan 30-31, Feb 18-19, Feb 25-26)
