Position Summary

The Environmental Analyst is responsible for operating and maintaining State and Federal mandated continuous emissions monitoring systems utilizing methodology established by the Environmental Protection Agency. This role is involved in all aspects of planning and executing projects, including but not limited to scheduling, planning, providing regulatory notifications, on-site source emissions sampling strategies, data analysis and reduction, and reporting.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental assessments and studies to evaluate the impact of human activities on ecosystems and air quality.
  • Collect and analyze environmental data using a variety of methods, including fieldwork, sampling, and laboratory analysis.
  • Serve as an expert on federal, state, and local regulations and EPA test methods.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental management plans, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participate in environmental monitoring programs and initiatives to track environmental indicators, identify trends, and assess the effectiveness of mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers and regulatory specialists, to address environmental challenges and achieve sustainability goals.
  • Stay current with emerging environmental issues, regulatory changes, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development activities.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on environmental matters.
  • Conduct testing at internal and customer sites to sample gas streams from units to measure the amount of pollutants being emitted through regulated stacks subject to the Clean Air Act (CAA).
  • Provide continuous emissions monitoring for O&M, asset management, regulatory compliance and reliability.
  • Provide source emissions sampling to determine the concentration of pollutants from internal combustion engine sources.
  • Coordinate between client and regulatory agency, as applicable, both prior to, during, and after test program mobilization; provide timely and accurate verbal and written responses to requests.
  • Perform field testing to gather data on stack measurements of various pollutants including carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and HAPs (relating to reciprocating engines and natural gas turbines).
  • Calibrate, maintain and and/or repair sampling equipment.
  • Independently resolve atypical field situations such as engine compliance failures, including suggesting resolutions.
  • Independently oversee and manage the plant's continuing emissions monitoring system (CEMS) to ensure optimum efficiency and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on process controls, programmable logic controls (PLC) and emission monitoring equipment.
  • Train and advise O&M Technicians on analytical instrumentation and any changes made to the system.
  • Maintain electronic and paper documentation for preventive maintenance, and regulatory required calibrations.
  • Input, update, and manage maintenance records regarding all CEMS activities, equipment history, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associates (2 year) Degree/Certification related to Instrumentation, Analyzers, or scientific field of study, formal apprentice program, or Military background in relevant technical fields.
  • Instrumentation and Controls Certification or Analytical Instrumentation Certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental analysis, research, or consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, policies, and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
  • Proficiency in environmental data collection and analysis techniques, including GIS, statistical software, and modeling tools.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail in conducting environmental assessments and developing solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Understand federal and state air quality regulations and sampling methods.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and effectively communicate results from various data applications including, but not limited to, continuous emissions management systems, data historians, data modelling, etc..
  • Firm understanding of interplay between the distributive control system and applicable field instrumentation and associated unit SCR Skids.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, schematics, basics of chemistry and physics, and controls and instrumentation.
  • Capable of reading process flow diagrams (PFD), process and instrument diagrams (P&ID), and electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Demonstrated skills in maintenance and troubleshooting of local and distributed control systems AND utilization of computerized maintenance management systems Strong emphasis on details-oriented, meticulous, regulatory based work-flow progression.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Strong mathematical ability and mechanical aptitude.
  • Highly competent in the use of MS Office products, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Ability to push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing are required.
  • Ability to climb elevated platforms.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
  • Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electrical or Instrumentation Certification from a branch of the US Military.
