Title: Executive Director of Marketing & Communications

Location: Boise, ID

Duration: Permanent, FTE

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8 -5


Must Haves:

  • Experience developing, managing, and evaluating the results of a strategic marketing and communications program.
  • Superior written and presentation skills, including proven ability to shape and align messaging tone and style with a sharp eye for detailed editing and proofing.
  • Successful track record of developing, implementing, and evaluating the results of a comprehensive and holistic strategic marketing and communications program.
  • Experience developing and managing an omni-channel content strategy and familiarity with CMS including WordPress are a plus.
  • MarketingCloud familiarity and experience implementing and managing CRM-connected programs are a plus.
  • Ability to manage all administrative functions of a comprehensive marketing program including tasks associated with leading a professional staff, overseeing a robust budget that maximizes resources, selecting vendors to enable outreach and increase efficiency, managing vendor relationships and freelance talent, serving as a liaison for internal and external partners, representing the brand and organization as needed.

  • Ability to effectively manage, motivate and mentor team members to do their best work.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and self-awareness.

60% of the time:

  • Vision and Leadership:
  • Develop a unified vision for communications and marketing that delivers powerful, cohesive messaging and storytelling.
  • Enhance the university’s brand and further its goals, including those of individual colleges and administrative units.
  • Serve as an excellent written and oral communicator, articulating complex matters to diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Lead a strong, cohesive team of marketing, communications, and creative professionals.
  • Oversee project management systems to foster accountability and exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Communications and Marketing and campus communicators to align advancement stories and messaging consistently across the enterprise.
  • Manage the marketing and communications budget, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.

35% of the time: 2. Strategic Initiatives:

  • Develop and execute a reporting and analytics strategy tied to key performance metrics.
  • Provide advice to senior leadership on complex communications issues, demonstrating a strong understanding of reputational risk and issues management.
  • Represent Advancement at board meetings, ceremonies, and university events.
  • Prioritize and pitch stories that align with campaign and university goals for brand-level distribution.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, agencies, and freelance partners.
  • Engage with industry colleagues to identify and contribute best practices.

5% of the time: 3. Additional Duties:

  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.
  • This role plays a critical part in advancing the institution’s mission and brand

Plusses:

- Experience working in higher education

- Experience working with Razors Edge DBA, Trello, and/or Wrike

- MBA or master’s degree in marketing or strategic communications

Day-to-Day:

Insight Global is looking for an executive-level marketing & communications person, this person will oversee the overall communications strategy and integrated marketing activities in support of strategic frameworks and our client’s business wide priorities. They will be a writer at their core and will have hands on guidance on all marketing and communications material for your team. Their responsibilities include leading efforts to advance the clients comprehensive campaign, annual giving, stakeholder engagement, donor relations, and development goals. This involves implementing a robust marketing and communication strategy aligned with the client’s brand identity, incorporating compelling storytelling, strategic media relations, executive communications, and creative services. Additionally, they will collaborate directly with senior staff, senior leaders, the Office of Communications and Marketing, and external brand communicators to promote institutional, brand, and fundraising priorities.
