Failure Analysis Engineer

Job Description
As Failure Analysis Engineer you make an important contribution to the analysis of our electronical components for possible failure origins in our Utica, NY facility. Your work is a key component of our quality controls and the handling of reclaims. You will report to the failure analysis manager based in Germany.

Job Responsibilities
  • Organize electrical tests, picture documentation, X-ray, Lock-in Thermography, cross section preparation, etching/removal of several materials, chemical cleaning tests, SEM/EDX-investigation, as well as other task specific other analysis
  • Responsible for photographic documentation, visual and microscopic control, X-ray- and SAM investigation, cleanliness measurements, etc.
  • Organization of additional analysis at other internal and external locations (hardness measurements, XPS, Auger, FTIR, FIB-Cuts a.o.)
  • Preparation of investigation reports and associated presentation of the analysis results to customers (external & internal)
  • Organization of laboratory material, instructions, cleanliness, and supervising of laboratory security in cooperation with other internal locations.
  • Some global and domestic travel required to internal company locations, external vendors, and suppliers.
  • Training will be provided at other Semikron Danfoss locations in Europe. Expect some extended trips as a part of your onboarding and ramp up in this role.

Background & Skills
  • Engineering degree (Chemical, Material Science or Physics)
  • 5+ years in Failure Analysis Engineering role.
  • Experience operating FA equipment, CSAM, X-Ray, and cross-sectioning tools.
  • Strong knowledge in analytical methodology and techniques

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of laboratory qualification (e.g.: A2LA certification).
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • Ability to use optical microscopes. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g.: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of German

Compensation Data
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $92,000-$110,000/year. Base salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
