As the Fundraising Content Writer, you will be responsible for developing clear, emotional, persuasive, on-brand, and donor-centric content. You will also be responsible for accurately representing Bethany’s brand and mission. You’ll work alongside a six-member Content Team, composed of a Director of Content, Senior Editor, Copyeditor and Proofreader, and Content Writer. You’ll also collaborate with the Director of Mass Portfolio Fundraising and members of the Donor Engagement team.

This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Create compelling and persuasive, donor-centric communications for appeals and acquisition campaigns-as well as supplementary materials including landing pages, emails, organic social media, video scripts, paid ads, etc.;
• Conduct interviews with staff, clients, donors, board members, volunteers, and other similar individuals, creating stories, articles, and appeals;
• Develop and maintain a fundraising communication style guide, clarifying best practices for donor audiences while adhering to Bethany’s Writing and Style Guide;
• Craft compelling event copy to inspire support from key stakeholders;
• Write content for crisis fundraising campaigns, working under tight timelines to raise money for Bethany programs while national attention is heightened;
• Coach and equip content colleagues to grow in their fundraising communication skills providing feedback, as needed;
• Participate in other content projects as needed;
• Complete other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s level degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; or comparable work experience;
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a content creation and fundraising communication position;
• Expert knowledge of fundraising copywriting best practices-acquired through trainings, workshops, coaching, and other forms of education from diverse, industry leading strategists and consultants;
• Demonstrated experience writing successful fundraising appeals to current or lapsed donors; acquisition letters to potential donors; and digital fundraising ads;
• Ability to navigate shifting priorities and demands from multiple departments;
• Experience adapting content to multiple types of donor audiences;
• Cultural-competency necessary for interviewing people with trauma backgrounds, varying socioeconomic positions, or crisis experiences;
• Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
• Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
• Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
• Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith and Mission Statement.
  
  

Salary disclosure for residents of Colorado, Washington, California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Washington D.C. & New York: ($50,000-$65,000) base rate plus a 1-25% differential.*
