POSITION DESCRIPTION

HGL has a position open for a Senior Geologist / Senior Hydrogeologist to support our work in the Boston, MA/New England area. The Senior Geologist/Hydrogeologist will provide site investigation, geologic, hydrogeologic, and remediation services to projects of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients.

This position offers the opportunity to work remotely from a home office in the Boston/New England area.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Designing, managing, and conducting environmental field investigations and remediation projects at hazardous waste/contaminated sites.
  • The supervision and support of environmental and engineering projects and tasks involving characterization and remediation of impacted soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater.
  • Oversight of drilling and monitoring well installations using multiple drilling technologies, borehole geophysics, packer tests, and pumping tests.
  • Preparing mathematical groundwater and conceptual site models.
  • Data analysis and the interpretation of field and analytical data.
  • The preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
  • Managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Client interaction and the supervision of field crews.
  • Implementing data quality control processes.
  • Reviewing and authoring technicalreports.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:

  • The Senior Geologist/Hydrogeologist position requires a minimum of a BS or BA degree in a field related to Geology or Hydrogeology.
  • 10 years of professional experience executing the responsibilities and duties outlined above.
  • Experiencedesigning and executing environmental investigation, remediation, design, and/or construction projects at federal facilities.
  • Proven experience in Client management (USEPA, USACE, and/or AFCEC preferred), regulatory interface, and management of teams performing technical tasks and activities.
  • Experience performing and evaluating hydrogeologic and aquifer testing methods.
  • Strong project management, organizational, cost tracking, technical writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate methodologies for groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment sampling at CERCLA and RCRA sites.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Competency with MS Office including MS Project.
  • Must possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment.
  • It’s expected that candidate will obtain PG or PE during employment.

Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT

  • Master of Science degree in Geology or Hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience with Primavera.
  • A Professional Geologist (PG) or Registered Professional Geologist (RPG) certification.
