Who We Are...

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) is one of four Girl Scout Councils supporting the New Jersey area. We service all of Hudson, Essex, Union, Somerset, Hunterdon, and portions of Middlesex and Warren counties. We operate offices in Westfield and North Branch, NJ; and maintain camp properties in Maplewood, Hillsborough, and Middleville, NJ.

The Role...

We are looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our dynamic and experienced team as Girl Experience Manager who will work within the Newark community to develop, manage, and deliver high-quality, culturally relevant programs, events, and services for Girl Scouts ages 5-17 and their families. Under the direction of the Leadership Center Director, the Manager works cross-functionally to create and deliver curricula that aligns these services with Girl Scouts’ mission and fulfills GSHNJ’s strategic objectives.

Here's What You Will Be Doing...

  • Contributes to the planning, execution, and evaluation of strategies to meet mission delivery goals.
    • Interprets the Girl Scout Leadership Experience philosophy and the council’s policies, procedures, and standards. Ensures that the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is present in all Girl Scout events.
    • Works to include and center the Newark community when ideating and developing programming and services provided at the leadership center.
    • Develops, cultivates, and maintains curricula that utilize the GSLE’s methodology to create short- and long-term programs and services that provide valuable, relevant, engaging, and diverse experiences for girls ages 5-17 and their families.
    • Continually engages with GSUSA to remain current and compliant on systems changes, programming, and opportunities relevant to members.
    • Optimizes technology to support customer service, program event management, budgeting, program effectiveness, and accurate record keeping.
    • Uses various tools to assess and analyze effectiveness of programs in fulfilling outcomes, meeting expectations, member enjoyment, adherence to GSLE philosophies, and observance of funding guidelines.
    • Works with Director to engage in troubleshooting, problem solving, service recovery, and conflict resolution to maintain a customer-centric environment.
    • Adheres to internal policies, procedures, business processes, and workflows to maintain brand standards, staff efficiency, and to meet business demand.
    • Serves as point of escalation for conflict or dissatisfaction among team or customers.
  • Contributes to strategic philanthropy in Newark, stewarding strategic relationships that mutually benefit the council and the leadership center’s customers.
    • Ensures compliance with grant, funding, and reporting requirements.
    • Elevates GSHNJ’s public relations in the Newark community.
    • Leverages strategic partnerships to maximize the impact of GSHNJ’s presence in Newark.
  • Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all appropriate youth and adults by actively participating in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.
  • Complies with GSHNJ’s Charter of Values, and uses it as the basis for personal conduct, conflict resolution, and correspondence with customers and coworkers.
  • Remains current on GSUSA’s and GSHNJ’s initiatives and national and local trends affecting our membership demographic and is able to correspond with team members and customers accordingly. Attends GSUSA webinars, participates in Chatter groups, and utilizes gsConnect.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Is this you?

  • B.A. or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in formal or informal education environment. At least two years of managerial experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-browsing software.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications as necessary.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, appropriate for working with a diverse group of youth ages 5-17, adult volunteers, coworkers, potential funders, and corporate and community partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while handling conflicting priorities and deadlines; flexibility to re-prioritize as workload shifts in accordance with day-to-day tasks.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Demonstrates effective facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Understands when and how to modify presentations and correspondence for different audiences and environments.
  • Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the Girl Scout Mission and its importance to the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Demonstrated abilities in planning, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Ability to make sound and timely business decisions; escalates as necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize work, train, and delegate to others.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Has significant ties to the Newark community.
  • Curriculum writing.
  • Experience with Asana or other project management software.
  • Youth leadership and development.
  • Event planning.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Flexibility to shift work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 30 pounds of Girl Scouting products, supplies, or materials.
  • A valid driver’s license, current insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel between council properties and across entire service area as needed.
  • Must become a registered member of Girl Scouts and maintain membership for duration of employment.
  • The job is primarily performed in Newark, but Employee may work from home as needed. Occasionally, Employee will need to attend meetings, trainings, or work events that may be held in any of these locations, others throughout council jurisdiction, or virtually.
