Position Purpose

Salary: $49,782.00- 72,855 (Commensurate with Experience)

Building Principal

Qualifications

  • At least three years of successful teaching experience.
  • A valid certificate as a guidance counselor.
  • A master’s degree, or its equivalent, representing intensive course work in the principles and practice of educational guidance; educational testing and measurement; counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learning.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Know and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
  • Provide services to students in the areas of academic, personal/social and career development.
  • Counsel students individually and in small groups.
  • Conduct classroom guidance activities.
  • Expose students to career exploration and interest inventories.
  • Review school data frequently to ensure that the school counseling program is meeting the academic, career and personal/social development of all students.
  • Prepare reports, records, lists and all other required information and data.
  • Encourage teacher/parent communication and community involvement.
  • Assist students in conflict resolution.
  • Manage crises.
  • Assist in the identification of students with special needs.
  • Refer students to intervention/remediation programs, as well as academic and alternative programs to ensure academic success and personal well-being.
  • Interpret student records.
  • Initiate student programs.
  • Refer students to appropriate school personnel and community agencies.
  • Participate in Child Study, IEP and 504 meetings.
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences.
  • Serve as resource for school personnel and parents.
  • Maintain a variety of files/records and departmental library of supplementary and reference materials.
  • Follow required procedures and practices.
  • Submit monthly time and task reports electronically.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Assist the building principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program.
  • Explain and interpret division-wide policies, goals and objectives to students, parents, and the community that impact students’ academic achievement and the school counseling program.
  • Plan, organize and direct implementation of all school counseling activities.
  • Serve with parents, faculty and other student groups, as requested, in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Provide in-services for instructional staff.
  • Create a school counseling calendar.
  • Serve on various committees for the total well-being of the school.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the principals.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and to enter data into a computer.
  • See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
  • Some teaching specialties (i.e., music, art, physical education, etc.) may require hearing, vision, and physical coordination and/or exertion and effort in excess of those listed above.

Term of Employment

Contract Length-Ten months

FLSA Status-Exempt

Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with Teacher Salary Scale.

Evaluation

Job Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
