CereCore is seeking a HIM Manager to join our customer in Gloversville, NY.


The Coding and Health Information Management Manager works collaboratively with our customer’s management, providers, staff, and patients to optimize the scanning, chart analysis, coding and charge capture processes. The manager will oversee the collection of patient information while supporting internal and external customers and working collaboratively across interdepartmental teams. This position ensures the efficient and effective daily operation of patient data, Worklists, and adequate staffing coverage of all areas of responsibility. This position will use critical thinking and analytical skills to complete special projects. This position supports and maintains ongoing processes and procedures that allow for accurate, complete, and timely verification of patient information, as well as, organizational mission, vision, values and regulatory standards. Supports, recognizes, and promotes teamwork within and across Coding and Health Information as well as with other departments. Will directly manage, audit, and review activities of the coding, clerical, analysis and other personnel engaged in the clerical functions of the Department. Assists with third party payer denials. Assists HIM Director in planning, coordinating, and overseeing the daily functions of the department. This position is on site with the ability to occasionally work remotely with approval from the HIM Director.


  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Responsible for the daily operational management of Coding and Health Information Management
  • Communicates with remote and on-site staff in an effective and positive manner.
  • Develops, manages, and conducts audits as appropriate.
  • Provides on-going education to employees in HIM and Coding.
  • Provides manager with productivity measure for staff.
  • Responsible for obtaining coverage for open shifts, planned or unplanned. This could include, but not be limited to, working the shift.
  • Provides education to staff and providers of NYS/CMS/DNV accreditation requirements for documentation.
  • Participates in Electronic Health Record (HER) optimization efforts.
  • Reviews and updates job descriptions as needed.
  • Plans, conducts, and supervises assigned projects.
  • Works with staff, departments, and HER vendor in optimizing electronic health record capabilities.
  • Responsible for schedules, timecards, receives requests, and grants approval for time-off requests.
  • Gathers input and provides feedback to employees through performance review process.
  • Investigates complaints and responds appropriately; sets and enforces performance standards and issues disciplines as required.
  • Works collaboratively with HIM Director and Human Resources on hiring / firing to leader.
  • Responsible for submitting and/or overseeing all files and corrections to SPARCS in a timely manner as defined by NYSDOH SPARCS guidelines.
  • Manages Tumor Registry submissions.
  • Works collaboratively with the HIM Director, Care Coordination and Patient Financial Services on third party payer denials for accounts. May write or assign appeal to appropriate designee.
  • May contribute or make recommendations to development of budget.
  • May recommend purchase purchases within established guidelines.
  • May work with Director on monthly variance.
  • Ensures that policies are followed by communicating new or revised policies to staff.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CCS or CCS-P Certified
  • RHIA or RHIT Certification preferred
  • 4 years of Revenue Cycle experience preferred.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Previous experience with outpatient and/or inpatient coding with assignment of ICD-10 CM codes, and ICD/10PCS or CPT/HCPC codes
  • Experience with EHR and software applications.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or lead role highly desirable.
  • Medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology
  • Effective supervisory and leadership skills
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable coding documentation and billing regulations related to NYS, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance
