What You Will Do:

The Human Resource Generalist will work amongst others handling a wide variety of HR responsibilities supporting the team with recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits & leave and enforcing company policies and practices


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings
  • Assists in conducting or acquiring background checks and employee eligibility verifications
  • Onboards new hires in system and manages new hire orientations
  • Handles company communication & employee relations including but not limited to employee lunches, updates, email communication, employee SharePoint site
  • Assists with employee growth & development programs
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, performance reviews, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations
  • Handles/Supports administrative side of all workers comp, short term, and long-term disabilities, including FMLA
  • Assists with employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Maintains employee files within HR systems and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of records
  • Supports payroll processing for Michael Lewis Company locations in the United States
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Available for infrequent travel to other Michael Lewis Company locations outside of Chicago


What You Bring to the Table:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required; Spanish a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, active listening, cognitive empathy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • At least 1-3 years of human resource experience preferred
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar Human Capital Management platform preferred
  • Professional HR certifications such as SHRM-CP or similar is a plus
  • Spanish bilingual proficiency preferred
  • Familiarity with a union is a plus


Physical Requirements:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
