Instructional Media Specialist

Job Summary:

The Instructional Media Specialist works with staff, faculty, and instructors in and out of the WSB Media Studio to design and produce course-related and other media using instructional technologies. In collaboration with WSB instructors and staff, this role aims to support and enhance teaching and foster inclusive and equitable student experiences through best pedagogical and production practices.

The successful candidate will use their familiarity with instructional process, organizational skills, visual design, and learning technology tools, (e.g., Canvas, Kaltura, Camtasia, Powerpoint, Adobe Creative Suite, and others.) to produce high-quality instructional media (audio, video, graphics) with minimal supervision. Specialized hardware and software for recording and broadcast workflows, broadcast cameras, microphone systems, and field production tools are frequently used in this role along with standard office software.

Developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with staff, instructors, and students through strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills is critical to success in this role.

Responsibilities: Designs, develops, and enhances instructional activities, programs, and curricula. Applies learning theory and instructional design models in the consultation, selection, and application of educational methodologies and technologies.

  • 5% Designs and develops engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
  • 5% Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults on instructional materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods
  • 5% Researches, designs, and/or acquires learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
  • 20% Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
  • 20% Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
  • 20% Designs, develops, or recommends multimedia learning materials. Facilitates communications with multimedia service providers to ensure instructional needs are met
  • 5% Designs, develops, and delivers faculty development and engagement programs and activities
  • 5% Works with campus partners across pre-production, production, and post-production stages of media development for implementation in courses and other campus initiatives
  • 5% Applies project management principles to course or media design such as defining project scope, establishing milestones, and tracking progress
  • 5% Reviews courses, media, or other learning products for quality using industry standards and accessibility practices
  • 5% Creates and maintains documentation on pedagogy, course or media design, templates, instructional technologies, and curates a library of shareable resources

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 2 years of experience using established visual design/layout and organizational skills to work with minimal supervision with the planning, production and application of digital media (audio, video, graphics) within the instructional process
  • Ability to understand, support, and maintain effective working relationships with university staff, instructors, and students
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management in a team environment, as well as vendors and contractors
  • Knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • 2 years of experience using instructional process and learning technology tools (e.g., Canvas, Kaltura)
  • 2 years of experience in a professional environment with predominantly OSX, and some Windows-based standard office software, including Microsoft PowerPoint and video/audio/graphics production solutions, including Adobe Creative Suite and Techsmith Camtasia
  • 2 years of experience using specialized hardware and software for recording and broadcast workflows and equipment such as video and broadcast cameras, microphone systems and field production tools supporting video production techniques

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
