Lead Bartender

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lead Bartender, The Living Room

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

REPORTS TO: Bar Manager, Food & Beverage Manager

Summary

The Living Room’s Lead Bartender will ensure the creation and maintenance of a strong link between the Front-of-House management team and the bar staff. This individual is responsible for overseeing the consistent implementation of SOP’s and service standards to ensure a flawless guest experience. A skilled customer service professional, the Lead Bartender will play a key role in maintaining a professional and enjoyable experience for both guests and teammates, and will step up to take on supervisory duties in the absence of the Food & Beverage Manager. The ideal candidate for this role will have a proven track record of serving as a role model, setting a standard of professionalism and exceeding guest expectations at every opportunity.

Essential Functions

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting problems. This individual is empowered to utilize their own judgement to address issues as they arise, and to decide when escalation to leadership is necessary.
  • Working proactively to communicate ordering needs to management.
  • Workshopping new cocktails, presenting innovative cocktail ideas as requested by management.
  • Maintaining their own cash drawer, and opening or closing the restaurant in the Manager’s absence.
  • Determining and maintaining pars for the bar and liquor storage room.
  • Prepping materials, garnishes, alcohol, glassware, bar tools, and batched liquor as required based on business levels.
  • Assisting with organizing the liquor storage room, including stocking product and breaking down boxes.
  • Training newly-hired teammates on proper service standards, correct procedures, SOP’s, proper use of POS systems, menu items, and cocktails.
  • Maintaining an open-minded desire to go above and beyond to fulfill guest requests and exceed expectations.
  • Creating an inspiring team environment with a culture of open communication and accountability.
  • Setting and helping achieve clear team sales and service goals.
  • Motivating and inspiring team members, as well as providing critical feedback when necessary.
  • Suggestive selling and up-selling.
  • Proactive cleaning of the bar and holding the team accountable to maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
  • Dealing with complaints and problems with a positive attitude.
  • Consistently providing professional, friendly, memorable, and engaging service.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate a team.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • TIPs certification required.
  • Flexibility to work all shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, luxury environment.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to carry and balance crates, wine, and beer cases.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (8-11 hours).
  • Ability to bend, squat, and crouch in areas of limited space to perform cleaning, organization, and other duties.
  • Adherence to The Dewberry’s policies and procedures, including but not limited to attendance, safety, behavior, and responsible alcohol handling.
