Recruiting Leader at NESN, the definitive source for New England sports programming

The Lead Editor will oversee digital editorial development, creation, analysis and optimization. They will create and own an innovative strategy for their team of writers to produce relevant and engaging content that supports NESN’s Content and Company goals. Key area of responsibility is digital editorial on the NESN website, nesn.com.



In addition to executing on the vision for NESN’s digital content, the Lead Editor will manage editorial calendars, audit existing content, develop content formats and help to create incredible content plans for key tentpoles. Storytelling is a foundational aspect of this role, and understanding how to organize content in a way that benefits NESN audiences while maximizing SEO, branded content, and other business considerations is equally important.



Please note: This position requires the employee to be in the office 4 days/week with one remote day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive editorial content strategy for NESN.com.
  • Manage a team of senior editors, digital content writers that are engage, enable and excited to accomplish the goals set before them.
  • Audit existing digital content and establish a roadmap to aid in the engagement and revenue growth of the website.
  • Incorporate technical and publishing-focused SEO expertise into creative and operational decisions for the editorial team.
  • Help meet NESN’s business goals, in particular accelerating the growth of digital revenue for the company.
  • Partner closely with the Vice President of Content, other Content Team Department Leads to ensure strategic creative alignment.
  • Develop and Maintain a consistent and effective workflow with the Analytics and Insights team to ensure all content performance is measured and analyzed to consistently test our content for effectiveness.
  • Team with the Product, Creative Services teams to ensure an optimal content experience on the website.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Social Media teams to align on social and email distribution and marketing practices to optimize reach and traffic.
  • Team up with Data and Analytics, and Finance teams to create systems and processes to track and measure the success of strategic partnership activities


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in digital editorial roles
  • 5+ years of experience leading a digital editorial or content team of at least 5 people
  • Comprehensive experience leveraging SEO best practices to drive editorial growth
  • Deep understanding of the Boston sports culture. Previous experience covering Boston sports in market for other media entities a big plus.
  • Experience working and leading within a cross functional team and company a must
  • Keen understanding of how successful content strategy impacts every facet of the digital business including product, design, tech, marketing, social, commerce.
  • Demonstrated success growing audience for owned and operated properties
  • Strong quantitative skills, and the ability to translate content performance metrics into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record succeeding in deadline-driven environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
