Learning Experience Designer

Job Description

Are you one of those learning design thinkers and doers who constantly push boundaries by bridging learning science with technological solutions? Are you enthusiastic and passionate about reimagining digital learning experience for online students? The Center for Online and Digital Learning at the College of Professional Studies of Syracuse University is seeking a Learning Experience Designer (LXD) to join our dedicated team. The team is committed to promoting the success of learners by expanding access to Syracuse University’s educational opportunities. The LXD supports the mission of the Center to develop engaging, rigorous, and inclusive experiences to a diverse student population. The LXD will be someone with strong design expertise and technical skills either in programing, visual/graphic design, or gaming experience. The candidate should be self-motivated, out-of-the-box thinker, and thrives in challenging situations where continuous learning and collaboration are expected. The person will collaborate with colleagues, faculty developers, program directors to create highly engaging learning assets via problem-based learning, simulation, story telling, or gaming, to name a few. At the same time, the candidate is capable to identify options to scale and is also willing to carry it out when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in learning science and technology, instructional design and technology, educational technology and psychology, multimedia design, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three plus years of experience creating digital learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in using instructional design theories and learning science in design and development of engaging, rigorous, and inclusive contents.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, creative, and great communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and interruptions.
  • Working knowledge and skills in emerging technologies such as interactive multimedia, game-based learning, and their implementation to learning experience design.
  • Project management skills in learning experience design projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing simulations, UI/UX design in learning, and problem-based learning experience (a digital portfolio is preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Identify appropriate pathways of design and development and carry it through. Manage design and development collaboratively and reflectively. Provide mentorship to colleagues on using learning experience design techniques.
  • Lead design ideation, development, test, and implementation. Collaborate with project stakeholders to align efforts with quality standards, learning theories, expected learning outcomes, and required timelines. Design and develop immersive digital experiences that are meaningful, engaging, and learner-focused via emerging technologies and methodologies. Work across functional groups to achieve shared goals of projects. Support quality course design by implementing quality design rubrics. Track and report frequently the statuses of projects throughout the development process.
  • Document design and development processes. Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
