Compensation: $79,907 Annually

Status: 100%, Full-time, Exempt, Confidential

Probation: 180 days

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center is the world’s largest LGBT organization of its kind. In 10 locations across Los Angeles, the Center’s nearly 800 employees and hundreds of volunteers offer programs, services, and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services, Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership, and Advocacy. The Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The manager of Learning & Development will exist within the Equity Office and The People & Culture Office, working in partnership to cultivate and sustain a culture of belonging and collaboration where our diverse staff feel safe in their intersectional identities, empowered to bring these identities to the Center, and supported in their professional growth. Together, these departments are committed to holistically supporting the employee lifecycle by developing equity-centered training, professional learning, career pathing, and mentorship programs, and promoting a culture that values ongoing learning and skill development

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Manager of Learning & Development is responsible for cultivating a culture of learning at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Rooted in the Center’s People Framework, Equity framework, and organizational values, the selected individual will design an approach to learning and development informed by adult learning principles thatensures all employees have access to opportunities to hone their skills, advance their careers, and contribute meaningfully to the Center's mission. This person will facilitate trainings, develop management modules to support existing and new managers in managing projects, working interpersonally and collaboratively. The Manager of L&D will serve as a thought partner to leaders across the organization’s departments, understanding their unique needs and challenges and working collaboratively to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and engagement where staff feel empowered in their work.

Essential Functions

In direct partnership with our Chief People Officer and Chief Equity Officer:

  • Manage the development and delivery of learning programs and initiatives that support the Center’s strategic goals and employee growth.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify training and development gaps for all staff levels across the Center.
  • Design and facilitate engaging and effective training programs on various topics, including, but not limited to, management skills, equity, leadership development,and technical skills specific to different departments.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and external vendors to develop and deliver training programs.
  • Independently manage our Learning Management System (LMS) and manage its ongoing effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive training library of resources, including online modules, self-paced learning materials, and job aids.
  • Implement systems for monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of training programs, adjusting as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage feedback loops to gather employee insights and incorporate their feedback into learning programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees through mentoring and coaching, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Utilize data to identify trends, skill gaps, and opportunities for improvement, informing strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with department heads and other stakeholders to ensure training programs align with departmental and organizational needs.
  • Foster a culture of learning at the Center by promoting professional development opportunities for all staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications And Experience

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
  • A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, human resources, education, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a learning and development or related role with experience in designing and implementing training programs preferably in a non-profit or social services organization.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Understanding of career development frameworks and experience designing curricula and implementing career ladders, particularly in non-profit organizations.
  • Well-versed in change management as well as process improvement methods.
  • Experience as an approachable mentor to colleagues and as an engaging, empathetic, solutions-oriented individual.
  • Well-developed business skills, a strong analytical orientation, and the ability to make decisions collaboratively.
  • Strong demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion – specifically, to address interpersonal and institutional racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression.
  • Exceptional communicator, including verbal and written communication, and skilled at listening.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
