Manufacturing Engineer with Jacksonville State University (Jacksonville, AL).

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for managing all additive manufacturing activities within the Center for Manufacturing Support (CMS), from the design process through production of finished parts and quality assurance. The Manufacturing Engineer will share responsibility with the CMS team for soliciting, planning, coordinating, organizing, and completing engineering projects and tests for regional manufacturing companies including, but not limited to, the use of advanced 3D CAD software, mechanical design packages, basic CNC machining, robotics, control systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The Manufacturing Engineer will support the Department of Applied Engineering students performing undergraduate research, course-related lab activities, and senior projects. Employees in this classification will work with a high level of independence, will report to, and be evaluated by the Director of the Center for Manufacturing Support.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Applied Engineering, or related field. Position requires related experience, which must include some experience or education in each of the following skills: Microsoft Excel – spreadsheet development for inventory control, calculation of different parameters, cost analysis, creation of quotes and invoicing; AutoCAD and AutoDesk Fusion 360 – modeling of mechanical parts, assemblies, and drawings related to manufacturing; Industrial safety and health – awareness of workplace hazards, implementation of engineering and administrative controls as well as personal protective equipment; Quality systems – interpretation of manufacturing drawings, checking newly manufactured parts for meeting acceptable tolerances, general use and understanding of hand tools and metrology instruments; Material science – interpretation of material properties and material data sheets for appropriate material selection. Evaluation of material properties such as tensile strength, hardness, etc.; Robotics – ability to program and troubleshoot industrial robots using teach pendant (TP); Lean manufacturing – application of 5S practices, visual management, and standard work procedures for effective manufacturing processes; and Programmable Logic Controllers – basic programming using ladder logic.
