Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineering Manager to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of the next generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. This position will be a key member of Electrolyte Technologies team and collaborate with sulfide electrolyte R&D, production & scaleup engineering teams. The Materials Engineering Manager will contribute to establishing Solid Power’s electrolyte product strategy, specify its functional requirements, and execute a smooth transition of R&D product to scaled production. The preferable candidate will have experience in solid electrolyte development for solid-state batteries and in leading a team of scientists and engineers. The candidate will also be responsible for improving current & future electrolyte product qualities to meet our customers’ demands, both internally and externally.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with electrolyte R&D manager, production manager and process/equipment engineering managers to execute corporate goals and objectives.
  • Lead a group of scientists and engineers to monitor the day-to-day performance of their jobs and guide their professional development.
  • Provide technical oversight of projects and foster technological development of the team to ensure that project/department milestones & goals are met.
  • Interface with Cell Technologies team for the ASSB cell performance evaluation of the electrolytes to improve product qualities.
  • Conduct tasks required for electrolyte performance improvement and report out data & lessons learned to the internal organization, including members of the executive leadership team.
  • Interface with customers to identify their needs and present them to internal stakeholders.
  • Improve product specifications to meet the needs of end-users and to stay competitive.
  • Participate with cross-functional teams to support continuous production technology improvements of sulfide solid electrolytes.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or a related discipline with minimum 5 years of industry experience in the product development & management environment.
  • Familiarity with chemical analysis techniques such as XRD, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, Raman, etc. and experience with glovebox use, air-sensitive materials desirable.
  • Fundamental knowledge of LiB & ASSB materials and understanding of sulfide solid electrolytes is a plus.
  • Interpersonal skills in developing positive working relations to interface well with other engineers, scientists, and operations personnel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.


Salary Range: $130,000 - $174,000
