We are seeking a Medical Director who collaborates with operational leadership and staff to establish, implement, support, and maintain clinical and operational processes related to benefit coverage determinations, quality improvement, and cost-effectiveness of service for patients. The Medical Director’s activities primarily focus on the application of clinical knowledge in various utilization management activities with a focus on pre-service benefit and coverage determination or medical necessity (according to the benefits package), and on communication regarding this process with both network and non-network providers.

Our practice's experienced team of licensed psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and therapists represent extensive clinical expertise. Providers facilitate superior and highly personalized treatment plans for a full scope of mental health issues for children, adolescents, and adults. Just about any mental health condition can be addressed, including attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, addiction, and all anxiety spectrum disorders.

The Medical Director collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and is actively involved in the management of medical benefits. The collaboration often involves the patient’s primary care Provider or Specialist Physician. It is the primary responsibility of the Medical Director to ensure that the appropriate and most cost-effective quality medical care is provided to members.

This position will have to be split between administrative (0.4 FTE) and clinical time (0.6 FTE).

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this position is $250,000 to $275,000 per year. The role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on performance. Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, licensure/certifications, scheduled clinical hours, etc.

Responsibilities:

Direct Client Care

  • Provide professionally competent psychiatric evaluations to clients resulting in a clinically competent diagnosis and clinical interpretation.
  • The physician will refer the client for the completion of a History and Physical exam, as appropriate to the level of care and the client’s need. The findings, results and recommendations of the History and Physical exam will be documented and reviewed by the physician, as outlined in the policies and procedures.
  • Medically manages patients and prescribes medications, as appropriate.
  • The physician shall competently order any appropriate pathology and laboratory tests and make an interpretation of said results in a timely fashion.
  • The physician shall demonstrate a knowledge of normal childhood development if privileged to work with this specialty population.
  • The physician shall demonstrate a knowledge of the natural progression of chemical dependence disease process if privileged to work with this specialty population.
  • The physician will evaluate clients who are decompensating and make appropriate treatment plans including arrangements for voluntary or involuntary hospitalization. This may include physician certification of involuntary hospitalization.

Review and Certification

  • Review and certify the initial evaluation, mental status exam, diagnosis, treatment plan and therapist assignment of all cases within specified time frames per policies and procedures.
  • The physician will review the need for a change in treatment protocols or level of care when the client fails to respond to the present treatment. The physician is expected to ensure that all medical treatments are administered in accordance with accepted clinical practices.
  • Review and certify the initial evaluation, mental status exam, diagnosis, treatment plan and therapist assignment of all cases within specified time frames, per policies and procedures.
  • The physician will review the Treatment Plan for accuracy and to determine the need for ongoing treatment, to determine appropriate treatment procedures and certify this through his/her signature on the Treatment Plan.
  • The physician will review the appropriateness of Discharge and the Discharge Diagnosis and certify this through his/her signature on the Discharge Summary Form.

Referrals are available for independent contractor therapists who seek to build a practice in a professional, multi-disciplinary setting. Clinicians with established caseloads and referral sources who can maintain their practices independently are eligible for highly competitive reimbursements and premium office space. Beautiful and flexible arrangements are available for individuals with substantial caseloads and referral sources. Employee arrangements are also available.
