The Mortgage Underwriter evaluates first mortgage conventional, USDA/RD, and portfolio loans to minimize risk and ensure compliance with Credit Union loan policies, guidelines, and investor standards. They review loan documentation for adherence to state and federal regulations, providing guidance to support staff and recommending underwriting procedure improvements.
Essential Functions
Conduct Comprehensive Loan Analysis: Analyze loan files and supporting documents to ensure compliance with credit union, conventional, government, and investor guidelines, with meticulous attention to detail, including personal and business tax return analysis. Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and promptly, both verbally and in writing. (Time: 50%)
Guideline Interpretation and Support: Offer guidance to processors and mortgage advisors on guideline interpretations and loan file specifics. (Time: 20%)
Loan Disposition Recommendation: Recommend loan disposition for amounts exceeding authority limitations to the Mortgage Underwriting Manager. (Time: 10%)
Market Conditions and Procedure Enhancement: Maintain current knowledge of market conditions in relevant geographic areas. Evaluate changes and updates, advising production staff accordingly. Recommend enhancements to underwriting procedures and standards, and assist in audits upon management request. (Time: 10%)
Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as directed by the Mortgage Underwriting Manager. (Time: 10%)
Education
Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work experience required.
Experience
Real estate underwriting or mortgage loan processing experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
