About This Role

District 97 is seeking an exceptional professional development leader to assist in facilitating and coordinating district-wide learning opportunities that build clarity, consistency and cohesion across staff. The equity and professional learning coordinator will be charged with supporting the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Equity and their team in the implementation of the district’s new teachers mentoring program, developing systems to consistently deliver of professional learning experiences/models, creating staff affinity spaces and being a key partner in other key culture change actions in order for our District 97 staff to collaborate to achieve the vision outlined in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.

Essential Role Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and administration to identify professional learning experiences and models to be prioritized, facilitated, modeled, implemented, and measured yearly.
  • Assist in the visioning, development and effective implementation of staff affinity groups focused on employee and student experience
  • Collaborate with district administration to create the professional learning plan that includes: district-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) professional development, the new teacher mentor program (1st and 2nd years), and other prioritized professional development
  • Work with the Core Instruction leaders to coordinator to provide meaningful support, classroom visitations, and coaching.
  • Provide principals with updated mentor/mentee information at the start of each school year in order to support a successful transition
  • Plan, conduct, and assess the training program, including teaching and coordinating learning experiences for mentors and mentees
  • Work with mentors to annually assess program progress and effectiveness.
  • Meet with new teachers and professional development participants, as groups and individually to determine needs and provide support, as well as monitor the effectiveness of the programs offered.
  • Regularly consult with human resources, and core instruction, including Universal Design for Learning staff and the OPTA about setting goals, reporting activities and planning for professional development/learning experiences.
  • Assist human resources colleagues in planning and implementing agendas for the Professional Learning Committee meetings.
  • Support the planning and implementation of professional development days within the school.
  • Collaborate with building staff to plan, coordinate, and maintain consistency within the buildings.
  • Prepare necessary plans and reports for local and state approval.
  • Model continuous learning and effective practices in instruction.
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the district’s professional development programs by preparing, distributing publicity and policy materials, maintaining records on training and participation, and providing input to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Equity on the overall effectiveness of the professional learning experiences and programs offered by the district.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for HR and Equity.

Content Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

The Successful Candidate Will Possess:

  • Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and curriculum alignment with standards.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of best practices in education.
  • Familiarity with district policies and procedures related to curriculum coordination and instructional support.
  • Dedicated to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess training needs through the use of surveys and interviews resulting in actionable plans.
  • Create, facilitate, and coordinate professional development
  • Perform administrative tasks such as monitoring costs, scheduling, planning, requesting quotes, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate professional development programs to ensure they are meeting the identified goals, priorities, and are being delivered effectively.
  • Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques
  • Provide resources for professional development activities.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars for conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Research a variety of information (such as courses, materials, training consultants, so forth) to develop new programs that meet staff training needs.
  • Respond to inquiries to resolve problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS and EXPERIENCE:

Credentials And Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred but not necessary.
  • Active and updated Teaching certification/license required.
  • Additional certifications or coursework in instructional coaching, educational leadership, or curriculum development are preferred but not required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years with 10 years preferred of classroom teaching experience in which the candidate was directly responsible for planning for daily standards-based student instruction.
  • Understanding of the concept of universal design for learning as a strategy for equitable outcomes.
  • Evidence of promoting collective teacher efficacy within a school and/or district environment.
  • Demonstrated record of advocacy in alignment with the vision of the Oak Park District 97 Board Policy 7:12 Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others around standards-based instruction, with attention to the Illinois Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards and the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
  • Ability to connect with staff, students and/or families in an authentic and, when needed, in a restorative way.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the performance of light work—which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere.
